Sponsors and Volunteers Sign the Fall 2018 St. Jude Dream Home in Denver

On Wednesday, August 22, 2018, sponsors and volunteers finally got to enter the Fall 2018 St. Jude Dream Home in Denver to sign the garage wall in preparation for the giveaway.

The Dream Home, built by Oakwood Homes and sponsored by Shaw Floors, Trane, Brizo, Bosch, and other building crews and organizations, is still in the last phases of construction, but will soon be fully furnished by Furniture Row and Denver Mattress before the open house tours begin on September 15.

The house, located in the Green Valley Ranch neighborhood of the Mile High City, is estimated to be 5,900 square feet and valued at $775,000. It has five spacious bedrooms, three bathrooms, a gorgeous back patio, and so much more.

All the money raised by the home giveaway will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital dedicated to fighting childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Those who purchase tickets or attend the open house are eligible to win the home as well as a $10,000 furniture shopping spree at Furniture Row, $2,500 VISA gift card, 2019 Lincoln MKC, and other amazing prizes.

Julie Hess, the Development Specialist for St. Jude, spoke to the team of volunteers and sponsors at the event alongside other guest speakers who helped make the project a reality.

“I just wanted to thank you guys for all the hard work you put into this beautiful home and into St. Jude. Because of you guys, no family or child will ever receive a bill for treatment, housing, travel, or food. Because of you guys, we have raised the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to 80% since the doors opened. And then because of you guys, the Denver Dream Home Giveaway has raised 8.6 million dollars. We are very, very lucky to have you,” Hess said.

After the speeches, invitees at the event got a chance to leave their permanent mark on the home they built by signing a wall in the garage with a message to the winner(s) of the house in Green Valley Ranch.

Although the construction team is almost done, the St. Jude Dream Home still has a lot of work left until open house tours start. Barb Chandler, one of the signees and Interior Designer for Furniture Row, will be designing the Fall 2018 St. Jude Dream Home using products from Furniture Row and Denver Mattress. She said she has a lot of ideas in store, but you’ll have to visit the dream home to see how it turns out.

“It’s going to be a bit modern with a touch of glam. The house will feature whites and blues—some grays. More metals. Think Hollywood.”

The project is entering its final design stages, but Chandler emphasizes they still need a lot of helping hands to move furniture, decorate, etc.

“Whenever we do a home like this, it’s not just us [Furniture Row employees] who help. It’s everyone—the neighbors, volunteers in our community, the builder, their suppliers, and so many others who donate their time. It takes a lot of people to make this happen,” Chandler said.

“It’s so heartwarming to be a part of St. Jude because of what they do. We get to change lives. It’s definitely near and dear to all of us.”

Click here to purchase tickets to enter the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway. Each ticket is $100. The open house tours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday from September 15 – October 21, 2018. Tickets must be purchased by October 19 to be eligible to win. The drawing will be on October 25 to announce the winner.

Entry Way

The house has great curb appeal and is in a stunning neighborhood. Right when you walk in, you notice the beautiful gray-washed wood floors that spread throughout the entire first story. With a feel of relaxed elegance, the design aesthetic starts right at the front door. “During the construction phase it was clear to me that the décor needed to be somewhat minimal with a touch of elegance,” explains Barb Chandler of Furniture Row who furnished the entire house.

Kitchen/Dining Room

The white kitchen is open and large, featuring granite countertops and an oversized island. “Oakwood is known for their fabulous kitchens,” Barb tells us. “That island can comfortably seat eight! It’s always so nice to have an kitchen where the whole family can gather while meals are being prepped.”

Since the St. Jude Dream Home has such an open layout, the dining “room” is strategically situated between the kitchen and the living room. A casual elegance exudes from this living space, and the large chalkboards are a nice touch. The mix of the reclaimed wood of the sideboard with the darker finish of the dining table gives this room a trendy vibe of relaxed sophistication.

Living Room

The gray washed floors with the Sherwin Williams Repose Gray painted walls set the tone for an ethereal, soft ambiance, and the burlap curtains ad just a touch of rustic charm. The stone and tile fireplace makes a designer statement while the large windows let in tons of light. With studded leather sofas, refined occasional tables, and fashionable home accents scatted throughout, this room is classic and timeless.

Master Bedroom

Complete with light and bright windows, a sitting area, a wet bar with a wine refrigerator, a huge walk-in shower, and an amazing closet, the master bedroom of the St. Jude Dream Home is truly its own little retreat. In fact, it’s so great that it is Barb’s favorite room in the house. “The sitting area is super cozy and the bathroom is very spacious,” she says. “However, it might be the giant closet that I’m drawn to!”

Laundry Room

Main Floor Guest Bedroom

This bedroom is very feminine and classy. With a four poster bed, a unique gilded cabinet, velvet accent chairs, and decorative lace lamps, this space reads sophisticated French country. Currently decorated as a bedroom, this room would also work well as a home office or den.

Upstairs Guest Bedroom

If shabby chic country is your favorite decor style, this room is for you. With a headboard inspired by wood shutters, multiple pattern bedding in soft neutral shades, and touches of wicker throughout, this room has its own on-suite bathroom and a large, walk-in closet.

This open living space has a very Americana homespun feel to it. With tradition furnishings, rope and wooden accents, and a neutral color scheme, this is a great little bonus room in the St. Jude Dream Home.

Basement Bedroom

Decorated as a child/teen room, this bedroom is on the garden level, bringing ample light into the space and making it feel like a main-level area. Boyish and fun accessories donne the walls and surfaces, nodding to all things boys love best: planes, cars, sports, and bicycles. A large closet walk-in closet offers plenty of storage space, and the nightstands have touch lighting, which makes it easy to see when your offspring wakes up in the middle of the night.

Basement Fun Room

This living space is kid-friendly and fun. With a large dining table to be used as a workspace, organizational craft holders on the wall, a small workout corner, and plenty of spots to sit around and play games with the family, this room is eclectic and comfortable.

For $100, you can buy a chance to win the St. Jude Dream Home, and you’ll also be entered to win a multitude of other prizes such as:

St. Jude Dream Home Exterior

Front Exterior

The exterior is very inviting with its elegant and creative decor. Featuring lanterns full of crisp, white candles, potted accents, and plush ottoman seating, the ambiance around the front door is infused with cheerful hints of spring. The architectural, craftsman-inspired design in a neutral palette makes this dream house a place that anyone can call home!

St. Jude Dream Home Office/Entry

Upon entry, the hallway is casually designed with a mixture of reclaimed and rustic furnishings to put together a balanced look of old and new. This space features many blue, mint, and gray colored tones that carry throughout the entire house, as well as eclectic metallic accent pieces and soft fabrics.

One of Barbara’s favorite pieces, the Pagoda Chest, can be found right at the entrance underneath the airy and elegant Harper Glass Table Lamp, creating an open and inviting ambiance.

“I actually have that in my house,” Barbara says admiring the classic, silhouetted chest.

Adjacent to the walkway, the Santa Cruz Console openly stores plants and also brings natural warmth to the space. The recycled fir wood of this piece adds to the reclaimed and rustic vibe of the home and is well accented by the Mercury Glass Buffet Lamp, which incorporates a shiny, contemporary twist. These pieces are complemented by the eclectic and vintage-inspired Ogee Rug.

To the left of the entrance, the office also boasts rustic styling with the Brownstone Desk and Brownstone File Cabinet, more favorites of Barbara’s. These pieces are beautifully made of reclaimed pinewood combined with a cool metal base for a one-of-a-kind, industrial-vintage feel.

Clean-cut and contemporary pieces are scattered throughout the room as well. The Rocket Accent Chair comfortably sits beside the desk, a nice addition to the rustic Marie Metal Chair. The Rochester Table Lamp brings a polished metallic accent to the mix, while the Hartford Wire Mesh Cabinet is both functional and fashionable.

Living Room

Continuing through the open floor plan, the entrance hall leads to the back of the house, where you can find the living room. In this space, there are eclectic pieces that Barbara says are really unique to the open space and the large windows that bring in a lot of natural light. Two Modena Sofas are beautifully upholstered in rich, brown leather for a rustic feel and are situated around the exotic Montana Coffee Table, which is easily the most interesting piece in the house. With a slender glass plate atop a large tree root as base, Barbara says she was inspired by the nature of Colorado when selecting this hearth of the home. Being able to choose items such as the Montana, is what Barbara believes makes the selection at Furniture Row so great and so fun to decorate with.

“Our buyers are fantastic. They’re really good at what they do. The reclaimed and one-of-a-kind pieces are great. Especially for a designer,” Barbara said.

As for how she selects which items to display, Barbara opts to focus on the products that tell the story of Furniture Row to get people excited.

“I try to do what’s relevant at the moment and what really showcases Furniture Row. Most of the time people come to our store, and might say, ‘I had no idea you had that!’”

As far as creativity goes, Barbara says the design for the 2016 St. Jude’s Home in Colorado Springs spurred from a number of things and undoubtedly resulted in a design that is completely original, a concept that can be found in many products at Furniture Row.

“I find inspiration everywhere. Everything is inspiring,” Barbara said.

In the living room, you can also find the Cornet Accent Chair, Urban Loft End Table, and the Rockport Table Lamp for a look that is original and sophisticatedly eye-catching.

Kitchen/Dining Room

Next to the living room, the kitchen is versatile with stainless appliances and quartz countertops. The gray-toned rectangular tile kitchen walls add clean, contemporary style and dark cabinets situate around a white and beige island for a spacious feeling. For more clean and trendy design, the Segovia Table Lamp adds a simple white accent in addition to three sleek white Calydon Barstools that complement the rustic Foundry End Table, a unique combination of embellished metal and wood.

In the dining room beside the kitchen, the sleek, chocolate Urban Loft Dining Table joins six Shimmer Parson Side Chairs for a romantic, velvety dining experience that is perfect for casual or elegant occasions.

The uniquely patterned Ibiza Table Lamp is a functional piece of pottery that completes the rustic and eclectic atmosphere. For sophisticated nighttime occasions, the Ridding Wine Rack is a nice touch for displaying your favorite drinks.

The dining room is Barbara’s favorite room in the house, although she said that it was really hard to decide. Her favorite artifact that adorns the walls for even more exquisite and elegant touch are the Sapa runners, made by the Hmong people of rural Vietnam, that are hand-woven from locally harvested hemp and dyed with indigo.

“I love the mix of metal and reclaimed wood with a more contemporary style dining table. I love the blue lamps, and of course the runners. Those are very special to me from just being there and meeting the women that make them and the history that goes behind them. I feel like it’s an honor to have these in Colorado!” she said.

Loft/Upstairs Laundry Room

Upstairs, the casual comfort carries to the loft, which features the Arabesque Coffee Table, the navy blue Bellamy Sofa, and the sleek Perry Park Accent Chair for a relaxed atmosphere that is soft to the touch. The Del Norte Cabinet wonderfully brings traditional beauty to the mix with antique glass mirror inserts and a stone top above a paned chest and also prominently displays the unique Buchanan Lamp and fun white and turquoise Tuka Vases. In the corner of the loft, the Branch Forest End Table also boasts whimsical and enchanted charm that you are bound to notice.

In the adjacent laundry room, the same Brownstone File Cabinet (which matches the desk from the downstairs office) provides convenience upstairs for your laundry essentials. The Segovia Table Lamp brings crisp and clean light.

Master Bedroom

No house is complete without a beautiful master bedroom! The gray Lauren King Upholstered Bed combines clean lines with lovely style for a look that is soft and elegant. This gorgeous charcoal tufted bed spotlights the many shades of blue and cream throughout the room.

Beside the bed, the Steel Frame Bubble Buffet incorporates reclaimed rustic style once again with its chic and decorative woodcarving drawers combined with metal. The luminescent Rhodes Mercury Table Lamp is a gorgeous light fixture that is an eye-catching addition for added coziness.

In a reading corner, the unique Branch Forest Nesting Tables sit next to the lovely Lim Accent Chair for a cool and collective relaxation spot.

In the closet, the Raja Bench is perfect for more storage or seating, and enhances the eclectic use of sculpted wood with its exquisite scalloped detailing.

Nursery and Girl’s Room

Furniture Row also has a unique crib collection, and the nursery in the far left corner exhibits beautifully-made items for your baby. The Jameson 3-in-1 Crib includes toddler bed rails that will grow alongside your child and also features added comfort and support with the Madison Crib Mattress.

The blue and gray palette of the nursery features a pop of bright peach with throw pillows and art that is a bright accent against the softness of the cream colored SM Comfort Accent Chair and the rustic washed Lisbon Armoire. More Branch Forest Tables make this a cozy spot similar to the reading corner of the master bedroom, and the fun yet simple designs of both the Harper Glass Table Lamp and the Riley Beige Table Lamp create added sophistication that is hard to beat.

In the girl’s room down the hall from the nursery, the white Bristol Valley bedroom set is complete with a full captain’s bed, a nightstand, a dresser, and a mirror for a polished princess look with more bold pops of peaches and pinks in addition to blues and grays. Another set of Riley Beige Table Lamps on the nightstands bring more unique style to this sophisticated kid’s room and sets a simple contrast to the bright colors and sparkly accents.

Boys’ Bedrooms

In the basement, there is plenty of childhood fun with two bedrooms for boys. In one room, a Frankfort Navy Daybed with a trundle is the perfect place for a little one to relax and is a sleek complement to the Urban Quarters Nightstand and the Urban Quarters Bench found in the hallway. Another Rochester Table Lamp and Marie Metal Chair are also great metallic accents alongside the navy blue boy’s theme.

In the second boy’s bedroom, the distressed and reclaimed Jaipur Bedroom set features a storage bed, nightstand, mirror, and media chest. The Jaipur Bedroom is right on trend-with its reoccurring use of antiqued mahogany. Both the Edison Table Lamp and the La Cantera Table Lamp add an eccentric twist that accompanies the exoticness of the Jaipur set. For a finishing touch, the bold colored patterning on the upholstery of the Prism Accent Chair creates the fun and wild style kids love.

Basement Fun Room

The last room in the house is easily the most livable room to hang out in whether you’re a kid or an adult! The wide-open space of the basement fun room is perfect for social gatherings and cool hangouts, so Barbara made sure the design was both casual and comfortable.

The giant room utilizes the space for two different purposes—to dine or to simply relax. The Foundry 2 Pc. Home Theater Wall is the primary focus of attention during movie night, and the Siesta Sectional is the perfect place to get cozy. Two large Reese Iron Round Tables atop a funky Oracle Ariel Rug are wonderfully made to hold a board game or a cup of coffee as you chat with your friends or family, and the basement fun room holds tons of surface space with the addition of the beautiful Foundry End Table that holds the Cooper Table Lamp and the Chinese Alter Table.

Bold and fun patterned, the Dot & Dash Ceramic Table and the Oxford Oceanside Chairs are the perfect places to perch, and a collection of Marie Metal Chairs are versatile enough for adults to sit in for drinking and kids to sit in for coloring.

In the dining area, the Rustamod collection features a buffet, a large and small hutch, a 54” dining table, a bench, a buffet, and an adjustable barstool, which are beautiful dark wooden pieces that accent the rustic Quarry Metal Cabinet.

Outdoor Patio

To complete the casualness of the 2016 St. Jude’s Colorado Spring Dream Home, the Brookstone outdoor set adds a comfortable and collected air to the breezy outdoor patio. Featuring a chair, sofa, love seat, coffee table, and end table, the Brookstone creates the home of your dreams with resin woven wicker and versatile contemporary cream cushions. Relax outside in the beautiful mountain air of Colorado Springs, and enjoy the bliss of this wonderful home for a cause.

The Sense Shag Rug softens the contemporary design, and adds warmth. The room is finished off with plush, neutral linens.

Step Inside The 2015 Colorado Springs St. Jude Dream Home

We are excited to reveal the interior design of the 2015 St. Jude Dream Home, Colorado Springs. The home itself is situated against the beautiful mountain backdrop, and is just as lovely to look at!  The Classic Homes design is a 3,900 square ft. family home, with lots of wonderful open-concept communal space, 5 bedrooms, and luxurious appointments throughout. Rich hardwood flooring, sophisticated neutral wall coloring, and quality finishes provided a great starting point for the furnishing and design of the space.

From entertaining guests to enjoying family time, the home layout has something for everyone–and we love the way interior designer Barb Chandler played this up by staging cohesive yet distinctive spaces throughout the house. Featuring rich cream and beige, striking coral and pink with bursts of yellow, the home’s inspiration is warm, inviting, and colorful. Custom fabrics add texture, interest, and give designer appeal. Natural elements like wood and stone combine with luxuriously woven rugs, window treatments, and furnishings for a design that has depth.

Let’s take a peek how this motif carries throughout the home!

The home design really is an entertainer’s dream! Upon entry, we are welcome into a living room. Tranquil, intimate and comfortable, this space features neutral tones offset by a custom fabric available through Sofa Mart’s Special Orders program. This living room is a sweet space for enjoying a cup of tea, for cocktail hour, or any time at all.

From the living room, the floor plan flows into the formal dining room. With the striking dining table, rustic woven dining chairs, and cabinet, this space is both traditional and rustic. The window treatments mirror the custom fabric featured in the living room, and give this rustic room a polished finish. We really love how this design makes the table the star. The woven chairs add an airy contrast to the table’s solid style, and really tie the space together.

The open-concept kitchen and great room are lovely continuations of the colors, custom fabrics, and feeling of the living and dining room. Bright, open, and welcoming, the space has ample seating wonderful for guests. Connected to the kitchen, the great room allows the host to entertain guests while preparing drinks and meals. Perhaps our favorite feature of this room is the fireplace. Double-sided to the outside living room, the fireplace anchors the room and is a cozy focal point. With the plush yet stylish furnishings, this space is all about comfort without sacrificing the designer feel.

Done with dinner and ready for some fresh air? We LOVE the patio area. Furnished to be as comfortable as any living room, the space is connected to the outdoors with all the comforts of the home’s interior. The fireplace adds warmth and coziness, and makes this a great spot to entertain. Patio furnishings and fabrics inspired by the interior design make this weather-friendly area a great extensions of the entertainment space inside.

The Dream Home features a lot of family-friendly spaces. For everyone from Mom and Dad to Fido, the home is designed for livability and comfort. In the basement you’ll find a large multipurpose fun room: The  basement space has a largely scaled sectional, accent chairs, a plus coffee table ottoman, and a television. Great for family nights and movie watching, this space also features a play/fitness area. With casual, plush furnishings and colors inspired by the home’s overall design. We especially love the angular placement of the area rug; it keeps the design of the space open and adds interest!

Ask anyone in the family which room in a home is the most important, and they’ll likely say it’s the kitchen! The fresh white country-chic kitchen of the Dream Home is a beautiful main level gathering spot for family and friends. The generously sized island is great for meal prep, and is also a casual dining spot when styled with barstools. Separating the kitchen and the great room is an eat-in dining space. The white base of the table is airy and light, and ties in with the design of the kitchen. The table area bridges both the style and uses of the kitchen and great room, and differentiates the space–and we love it!

On the third floor is a great home office/loft space. Whether mom and dad use it for bills and paperwork, or the kids use it for studying and projects, the office itself is versatile. Ample storage gives the loft all of the functionality of a designated office, while comfortable accent chairs add a lounge feel.  Framing kids’ artwork is a cost-effective, clever way to add a family feel to an office or loft space, and really makes the space personal.

The Dream home design covers everyone’s needs–even man’s best friend! We love the Fido-friendly design in the laundry room. Featuring colors that complement the design of the home, this pet corner of the lovely laundry room is a functional, sweet way to make dogs and cats as part of the home as they are of the family!

Ah, sweet sleep! Made sweeter by the luxuriously designed bedrooms of the Dream Home. The second floor Master Bedroom features subdued coral and yellow tones, soft fabrics, and plush furnishings. Inviting, elegant, and dream-worthy, this Master Bedroom is a wonderful grown-up retreat.  We especially like that the room’s design takes color cues from the rest of the home, while being tranquil and relaxing.

The sweet Girl’s Bedroom is playful with purple and all-things-girly. The playhouse-inspired bed is a fun furnishing sure inspire a child’s imagination. We love how this bedroom does double duty as a creative play space and a bedroom. Designer Barb let us know the room is dedicated to Ella, a little girl battling cancer with the support of St. Jude. The room was styled with her in mind, and is a sweet reminder of her inspiring battle.

The Boy’s Bedroom is one that is sure to grow with a child into teenage years. We love how the design combines classic childhood interests with furniture that will transition nicely to young adulthood. Anchoring a space with timeless furniture like the nightstands, and adding toys and other age-appropriate accent pieces is a smart, simple way to create a versatile design that can evolve with your child.

Styling a guest room can be tricky, and what makes this design so successful is that it is beautiful and stylish in a way anyone can appreciate! Accent chests as nightstands add creative flare, while rich neutrals and muted pops of color add warmth and coziness. Inviting, elegant, and accessible, this guest room style is one any visitor is sure to love!

Lullabies will send littles ones off to sleep, but the design of this Dream nursery is far from a snooze. Whimsical yet elegant, we love how the room combines color, textures, and comfort for a space that is as lovely as it is functional. The best part of this nursery is that with a few adjustments as a child grows, the room can be transformed into a child’s room. We love that the design is perfect for baby without being babyish!

Tour the 2014 Denver St. Jude Dream Home

Designer Barb Chandler, pictured with Dan Deru and Cody from Fox 31 News during a news feature on the Dream Home.

Want to tour the 2014 Denver St. Jude Dream Home? We are so excited to share photos of the Denver St. Jude Dream Home here with you! Situated in Denver’s Green Valley Ranch community, the beautiful Oakwood Homes build is centrally located, and boasts sweeping views of the front range. With 4 bedrooms, approximately 4,000 sq. feet, and luxurious appointments true to Oakwood Homes style, this sure is a home worth dreaming about!

The interior is furnished with Furniture Row products, and has been staged by our resident designer Barb Chandler. Barb describes the inspiration as “rustic luxe”–and we love it! Rich blues, earthy wood tones, and bursts of metallic accent pieces combine in a wonderfully luxurious, yet true-to-Colorado style. Check out the photos below for an inside peek at the home, and to see it in-person, be sure to stop by weekends through November 9th (Saturdays: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sundays: noon – 5 p.m. ) for Open House tours.

Upon entry of the spacious foyer, we are welcomed into the main living space. The floor plan is open and flows well, allowing for continuity in design and color palette. The dining room really does bring rustic-luxe to life with the Bellaire Dining Table, the chic Bellaire Parson Chair, and the Desert Hills Server. We especially love the accent of the Laritha Chair in blue. Also pictured in dining: the Emma Urn Lamp, Bird Book Club Art, and Taza Light Blue Rug.

The home office continues the same luxurious look, and the blue color palette for streamlined style. The Woodlands Writing Desk, and Woodlands Bookcase really bring the space together, and enhance the functionality of the main floor. Also pictured is the Illyria Wall Mirror, which brings an instant burst of luxe we can’t get enough of!

St. Jude Dream Home Denver Entry

Next, we move into the main living area–the open concept kitchen and family room. Continuing the blue palette, this space boasts bold touches of teal–check out that Solano Sofa in Mermaid! The family room is casual yet polished, and reflects the rustic-luxe inspiration. The Toby Chair in grey, and the Farnsworth Tables, and the Escape Pouf really add texture and help define this space from the kitchen. Also pictured are the Overscale Ikat Rug, the Old World Console, and the Pipe Nesting Table.

Included in the photos below is the third-floor great room–a space Barb claims as her favorite project in the house! The large, loft-like room proved a challenging blank canvas; Barb really rose to it, and created a multi-purpose space to be enjoyed by all. From movie night and poker night, to pilates and children’s playtime, the great room truly does have something for everyone. Featured in the great room are the Rachael Sofa and Chair, Steel Town Tables, and the Lauren Linen Cabinet.

St. Jude Dream Home Denver Shared Space (1)

All four of the bedrooms are located on the second level of the home. The luxurious master suite uses the blue color palette to create a spa-like retreat. Metallic accents combine with rustic wood pieces for an eclectic, yet polished style. From the linens to the furnishings, this truly is a master DREAM suite! Suite features the Emerson King Coverlet, the Waverly Bedroom Group, and the Juliet Blue Stone Chest.

The children’s rooms look like they were a lot of fun to design–and would be a lot of fun to live in! Neutral wall colors are made whimsical and youthful with pink, blue, and red accents throughout. The nursery features the Brookline Convertible Crib, and the Milo Natural Rocking Chair to ensure the sweetest of dreams! In the boy and girl rooms, whimsical bed linens combine with furnishings that can easily transition as children grow. The girl’s room has two of the Coco Daybed to create a fun, lounge-like feel, and the Chloe Comforter Set for a feminine finish. The boy’s space is really set off the by Moustache Linens (coming soon!), the Union Jack Chest, and the plane toys-turned-wall art.

Barb utilized toys and wall decals from Target stores to create a ready-to-go children’s space. We really love the idea of mixing higher end pieces with simple designs like the toys and decals to affordably add playful touches.

Take a look back at the 2013 Castle Rock Dream Home, and the 2014 Colorado Springs Dream Home

Design Preview of the 2014 St. Jude Dream Home

We are very excited to share this interior design preview of the 2014 St. Jude Dream Home. Located in scenic Colorado Springs, the beautiful new home was built by Classic Homes, and was fully furnished and styled with Furniture Row products by our team of expert designers. The weekend of April 4 was the open house, and visitors previewed the wonderful home and it’s design. Be sure to check out photos below, and  words from our designer Barbara Chandler about the home.

The versatile Classic Homes design lends itself wonderfully to many styles of interior decorating. The overall inspiration of the home was “the beautiful great outdoors of Colorado”, and was brought in with”green, chocolate brown, with splashes of orange and white”, Chandler says. These rich neutral earth tones, and bursts of color give this Colorado home a warm, livable feeling–and we love it!

The home design is anchored by complementary textures, and cohesive design pieces. While each room has a unique style, the overall inspiration of the home is reflected in each space. Accents of spring green, rich beiges, and occasional pops of orange and other warm hues are throughout, and tastefully bring surprising style to every room.

If you love this home as much as we do, and want to get started on your own Dream Home,  Barb has a few recommendations on where to begin your design: “Gather photos of styles and colors of rooms you like…Make a Ta-Da list of what you really want in the rooms you are designing. Measure TWICE, sketch it out”. No matter your budget, planning well and sticking to what you know you want & love in your home can make your dream design a reality, too.

From the handsome hardwood floors to the rich finishes the furnishings, this home is a beautiful reflection of Colorado, and of interior design. Barb said it well and we agree, that the best part of being involved in the home is helping such an important cause: “It’s a wonderful feeling knowing our efforts are helping the children at St. Jude.” To support St. Jude–and for your chance to win this beautiful home, be sure to get your ticket for the 2014 drawing.

Styling A Moroccan-Inspired Master Suite

With luxurious linens and a rich color palette, the master suite in any home can become a master retreat. The key to styling your master bedroom is to surround yourself with sumptuous fabrics, layers of texture, and relaxing colors. One of our favorites is this Moroccan-inspired master suite of the St. Jude Dream Home furnished by Furniture Row.

In the 2013 St. Jude Dream Home, the 100% cotton Marrakesh Duvet Cover sets the tone of a master suite retreat: Rich royal blues are offset by crisp white, and give this bed a stylish yet tranquil feel. With an exotic but tailored diamond print, this bed brings a burst of Moroccan blue without overwhelming the space. The duvet is paired with 100% Italian sateen sheets in white that boast a dreamy 620 thread count.

To recreate this sophisticated sleep space in your home, try painting the walls taupe, and incorporate accents of navy, sky blue, slate, and bone china to bring depth as you tie the design together. If you are dreaming of this design for your own home, the Marrakesh Duvet Cover from The Linen Shoppé at Furniture Row is available in both King and Queen sizes.

Inside the 2013 St. Jude Dream Home Furnished by Furniture Row

We are excited to share this gallery of the completed interior design of the 2013 St. Jude Dream Home.  Situated in beautiful Castle Rock Colorado, the home is furnished in Furniture Row products hand selected by a team of expert interior designers. Be sure to check out our gallery of photos, a virtual tour–and to see the home in-person, stop by for an OPEN HOUSE, weekends from October 5 – November 10.

The theme of the design is described as “reclaimed American”: Distressed furnishings that stylishly show wear, vintage-inspired pieces that add warmth, and metallic accents & a rich color palette that combine to create a home that is rustic yet polished.

St Jude Dream House Dining Room Living Room

The color scheme of the home is neutral, and elegant. Black, cream and grey are accented by bursts of rich blues and golds. From the tiling to the area rugs, the color palette is cohesive, and layered. Rich textures and the recurrent color scheme give the design a mixed media feel, and add depth.

St Jude Dream House Kitchen Family Room

The central living space of this open-concept home features dark hardwoods that flow throughout. To give the rooms definition, the designers used area rugs and furniture from Sofa Mart and Oak Express to create a visual partition between the kitchen and the living room. Without taking away from the fluidity of the design, the living room is defined by a plush neutral sofa, a padded coffee table, and a sharp black & cream rug.

The fresh white kitchen, complete with barstools from Oak Express and an island, is punctuated by stainless steel appliances, neutral granite, and a tiled backsplash that ties all the colors of the home together.

On the second floor of the home, in addition to the bedrooms, is a rec room complete with a wet bar. The multipurpose room is furnished to maximize the function & style. A leather sectional from Sofa Mart is perfect for movie nights; the Oak Express dining set is a casual addition to the space and is ideal for snacks or gaming.

St Jude Dream House Upstairs Loft

Just across the hall from the rec room is the master suite–and we love the way it came together! Deep blue and crisp white from The Linen Shoppe linens give the room a classic look. And, check out that bathroom. A walk-in shower for two, and dual vanities give it a spa-like feel.

St Jude Dream House Master Bedroom

The children’s playroom, and bedrooms furnished by Bedroom Expressions are playful takes on the colors and design on the rest of the home. Distressed woods, and textures layer to bring the reclaimed American feel throughout.

St Jude Dream House Childrens Bedrooms

It can be daunting to face furnishing your home. But, you don’t need to be afraid of blank walls and empty rooms. Our expert designers recommend starting your design with a basic piece: an area rug. Find a rug with the texture, colors, and prints you love–and then, build around it. Using the rug as a guide, you can draw inspiration for the rest of your design to create your very own dream home design!

Love the home as much as we do? It’s not too late to purchase a ticket…only one can win, but it could be you!  In addition, you could win a $10,000 shopping spree courtesy of Furniture Row! Winner will be announced on November 14.

Meet Furniture Row Residential Interior Designer Greg Utsinger

MeetGregSliderWe’re lucky to have some professionals around the Front Door, and our main man to go to when needing advice is Furniture Row Residential Interior Designer Greg Utsinger. We put together a short questionnaire that Greg was kind enough to answer in colorful ways. Greg, meet the Front Door readers. Readers, meet Greg.

Greg Utsinger
Greg Utsinger, Regional Visual Merchandise Manager for Furniture Row

As a Regional Visual Merchandise Manager for Furniture Row, most of my responsibilities involve ensuring that the Visual Sets and Standards set forth from the Design Department are implemented in our stores. There is also a lot of “creating on the fly,” as each store has its own unique challenges. From time to time I get the opportunity to work on photo shoots and other projects.

Anytime I’m creating or inspiring people to create.

I’ve always had an interest in furniture and design. When I was a kid, I would rearranged my room all the time. I remember in the fall, raking leaves into lines to create the “floor plan” of a house, and every time there was a refrigerator box to be found, I was cutting out windows and drawing curtains with a magic marker. When I went to college to study Graphic Design, I took a few interior design classes and quickly changed my course.

I think anyone can be taught how to set up a display, but it takes a natural eye to look at something and see what it needs, or to see the overall picture before it actually exists. As a designer, obviously you need an eye for color, the ability to combine colors, textures, and styles, as well as a sense of scale and proportion. I think the ability to look at things from an artistic standpoint is important too. When working with a client, the ability to create something that is a reflection of that person or family is vitally important, after all, they are the ones who will be living in it.

Because I travel a lot, no two days are ever really the same. I spend some time assessing what’s done and what needs to be done; based on that, I make a plan for the day. There are weeks when you get to be a part of great projects, like the St. Jude Dream Home or Ronald McDonald House, and then the opposite end of the spectrum when you’re in a warehouse somewhere unpacking accessories. I enjoy when I’m in a store and get an opportunity to help out the sales staff to help put a room together for a customer who might be having trouble seeing the whole picture.

For most of the photo shoots I’ve worked on the product is chosen for me, but I love to work with dining rooms, probably because I love to cook and entertain so much. I love the Madagascar Dining Table from Oak Express, both the square and the rectangle versions. I think it’s the straight lines of it with the chunky legs; it’s the kind of table you could put a million different chairs with and make a huge statement.

My personal style definitely bends more to the contemporary side, but I have an appreciation for traditional, classic things. I love to incorporate unexpected pieces into a room and blend old, new, classic, modern, etc. I think Furniture Row has a great offering that allows customers the same kind of options. Something like the new Central Park Sofa from Sofa Mart with its straight lines and metropolitan feel, mixed in a room with an ornate console table, antique piece, or one of Furniture Row’s one of a kind Zafar Chests – the kinds of things that give a room character, that make them feel more personal and unique.

I love the kitchen, because it’s another place filled with the opportunity to be creative as well as the place I spend the most time in. I like the simplicity and quietness of my bedroom, but from a designer’s perspective the most unique is my powder room. It was an opportunity to go a little “over the top.” Just like how I always love to throw an unpredictable element into every room, this powder room is the “unexpected” room in the house.

Most people don’t know where to start – my advice is, start somewhere. Pick something that you love; a paint color, a pillow, a rug, etc., and work from that. A new color on the walls is one of the quickest, easiest ways to change the entire look and feel of a space. If you can’t decide what color to paint, a great place to start is your closet. Your wardrobe can be very telling of what colors you love. The other piece of advice is to take your time when finishing the room to let the finishing touches, like accessories and artwork, evolve. It helps keep the room personal and eliminates that staged, model home look.
