Sponsors and Volunteers Sign the Fall 2018 St. Jude Dream Home in Denver

On Wednesday, August 22, 2018, sponsors and volunteers finally got to enter the Fall 2018 St. Jude Dream Home in Denver to sign the garage wall in preparation for the giveaway.

The Dream Home, built by Oakwood Homes and sponsored by Shaw Floors, Trane, Brizo, Bosch, and other building crews and organizations, is still in the last phases of construction, but will soon be fully furnished by Furniture Row and Denver Mattress before the open house tours begin on September 15.

The house, located in the Green Valley Ranch neighborhood of the Mile High City, is estimated to be 5,900 square feet and valued at $775,000. It has five spacious bedrooms, three bathrooms, a gorgeous back patio, and so much more.

All the money raised by the home giveaway will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital dedicated to fighting childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Those who purchase tickets or attend the open house are eligible to win the home as well as a $10,000 furniture shopping spree at Furniture Row, $2,500 VISA gift card, 2019 Lincoln MKC, and other amazing prizes.

Julie Hess, the Development Specialist for St. Jude, spoke to the team of volunteers and sponsors at the event alongside other guest speakers who helped make the project a reality.

“I just wanted to thank you guys for all the hard work you put into this beautiful home and into St. Jude. Because of you guys, no family or child will ever receive a bill for treatment, housing, travel, or food. Because of you guys, we have raised the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to 80% since the doors opened. And then because of you guys, the Denver Dream Home Giveaway has raised 8.6 million dollars. We are very, very lucky to have you,” Hess said.

After the speeches, invitees at the event got a chance to leave their permanent mark on the home they built by signing a wall in the garage with a message to the winner(s) of the house in Green Valley Ranch.

Although the construction team is almost done, the St. Jude Dream Home still has a lot of work left until open house tours start. Barb Chandler, one of the signees and Interior Designer for Furniture Row, will be designing the Fall 2018 St. Jude Dream Home using products from Furniture Row and Denver Mattress. She said she has a lot of ideas in store, but you’ll have to visit the dream home to see how it turns out.

“It’s going to be a bit modern with a touch of glam. The house will feature whites and blues—some grays. More metals. Think Hollywood.”

The project is entering its final design stages, but Chandler emphasizes they still need a lot of helping hands to move furniture, decorate, etc.

“Whenever we do a home like this, it’s not just us [Furniture Row employees] who help. It’s everyone—the neighbors, volunteers in our community, the builder, their suppliers, and so many others who donate their time. It takes a lot of people to make this happen,” Chandler said.

“It’s so heartwarming to be a part of St. Jude because of what they do. We get to change lives. It’s definitely near and dear to all of us.”

Click here to purchase tickets to enter the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway. Each ticket is $100. The open house tours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday from September 15 – October 21, 2018. Tickets must be purchased by October 19 to be eligible to win. The drawing will be on October 25 to announce the winner.

The Fall 2018 St. Jude Dream Home is located in The Enclave at Green Valley Ranch neighborhood at 4950 Liverpool St., Denver, CO 80249.

Create a Budget-Friendly Home Gym

You don’t need a lot of room to add a home gym workout space to your abode. They say half the battle to working out is actually getting to the gym. Bring the gym to you by creating a workout space personalized for your unique workouts. Many home furniture items can easily be transformed into a versatile workout tool. Your home gym could simply be using furniture and body weight, or you could add weights, tension bands, and items like yoga balls to complete your idea workout space. If you need to pick up a few versatile items, head to Furniture Row for a large selection of the latest home furnishing and styles.

We’ve gathered a list of furniture essentials for your home gym, which may already be in your home! Start with choosing the scenery for your home gym. Perhaps there’s an area near a window with a view, or an accent wall? A great way to get inspired is to add artwork like the the Atlantic Waves Framed Print and Buddha Gold Foil Lacquer Print. Next, decide on how you would like to store your equipment and gear. Smaller workout equipment can be stored in a basket like the Rattan Trim Baskets. Larger items and clothing fit perfectly in the Chantilly Wardrobe Chest. Use a bench like the Bombay for weightlifting and some body weight exercises. A high back chair like the Fabulishish Accent Chair can be used for standing stability exercises such as barre. Protect your knees and elbows with an soft, yet easy-to-clean rug like the Antiquity Grey Rug. The goal is to establish a place you feel comfortable and motivated to work out. Have fun with colors, design, and layout. As long as you utilize the space, you can’t go wrong!

Inspiring Kids’ Bedroom Ideas

It’s almost time to head back to school and designing your kid’s bedroom can be a fun and challenging project to get them ready to head back to class. It’s important to design your kid’s bedroom in a way that fits into your lifestyle and lets your child’s personality shine through. Giving your kids a space as unique as they are is vital to your child’s growth and development. To help get you inspired, we pulled together three unique kid’s spaces using sturdy yet stylish pieces from Furniture Row.

Kids Bedroom: Bunk Bed Brilliance

If storage and space are at the forefront of your mind, consider bunk beds as an option for your kid’s bedroom. Bunk beds are a popular choice for growing families and an efficient use of space. Adding a bunk bed like the Dove Bunk Bed, will put you in storage heaven. Whether you need space for clothes, toys or other kids’ room essentials, this versatile bed is the perfect choice. Choosing a bunk bed will keep the space from feeling crowded and leaves room for creativity and extra fun.

Kids Bedroom: Twin Bed Haven

If your space allows room for two, try placing two identical twin beds in the same room. Whether you have two children or simply desire a sleepover ready room, this will create a twin bed haven that your kids can’t get enough of. Considering ample storage is crucial when placing two beds side by side: try situating a night stand in between the two beds to reduce clutter. If you’re contemplating clever ideas for keeping toys and clothes out of sight, choose a bed with under storage like the Durango Panel Bed with Storage. If you decide to go with two twin beds that don’t have under-bed storage, consider plush comforters and bed skirts to utilize the space under the bed for additional hidden storage.

Kids Bedroom: Room to Grow

The traditional one bed room doesn’t have to be boring. Style your kids’ room with props, bedding and decor that reflect their personality and passions. With its pearlescent upholstery and crystal details, the Isabella twin bed is the ideal room fit for the feminine princess in your life. For the more traditional and easy-going kid, designing a room with the versatile Dakota bedroom group will stand the test of time.  If a twin bed is slightly too small, a full bed like the Abbott bedroom group or the Huntington upholstered bed are great choices for the transition from childhood in to tween and teen years. Your kids will thank you for their colorful, creative and undeniably cool space to call their own.

SHOP THE LOOK: Catalina Bedroom Group | Lighthouse Glass Lamp | Antiquity Bedding | Barton Accent Chair | Rain Fall Framed Print | Camargue Framed Print | Marbella Rug | Bella Deco Stool | Bindi Rug

The hard elements found in the room; industrial ducting and piping, exposed brick, and the concrete floor, juxtaposed with the soft elements; the comfy chair, cozy bedding, and flowing window sheers create the perfect mix of textures and patterns – a foundation of boho style. The plants and flowers bring in additional touches of natural elements to the space.

The Catalina Bedroom Group is great fit to incorporate the wood elements, often found in boho style, into the room’s design. This comfy bed is layered in pillows and throws in a variety of colors and textures. The plush Antiquity Bedding Set invites you to lay back and relax!

Bright orange is the dominant color found in the space. This color gives the room a feeling of warmth. Paired with the crisp white walls the room is lively yet relaxing at the same time. The Marbella Rug adds another layer of warmth to the room with its orange hues and luxurious thick pile.

The gauze canopies hung above the Lighthouse Glass Table Lamps help to diffuse the light and create a soft glow in the room.

Art is also a major component of boho style. The artwork found in this room consists of the Rain Fall and Camargue Framed Prints. Featuring wild horses, this artwork expresses independence. Bohemian style is all about independence and unconventionality!

No matter how you choose to decorate your bohemian bedroom, by following some boho style basics, combined with your personal touches, you are sure to end up with a comfortable retreat!

Patio Layout Guide

Warmer months are for relaxing out on the patio and enjoying the beautiful weather. Think ahead when creating a patio layout this summer. What will your space mainly be used for? Creating a layout not only helps you stay on a budget, but it also helps maximize your patio’s square footage. The main elements of creating an enjoyable outdoor space are seating, tables, and functional furniture. We’ve created four patio layouts for the most common spaces.

Chef’s Space Patio

If you’re planning on having lots of outdoor meals with family or guests, designing a patio layout with food service in mind is the way to go. Make sure to choose a grill that leaves enough room for moving around, prepping, and of course, serving your guests. Additional prep space can be created by adding a kitchen cart such as The Sonoma Island. Top off your food prep oasis with the Trasimeno Umbrella near the grill so that rain drops don’t threaten your barbecue cravings and sunburns can be prevented. Next, is the dining table and seating. In a patio made for dining outdoors, a large dining table with plenty of room for dishes and drinks is a must. The Trasimeno Rectulanger Dining Set is a good option as it’s large enough for a family and is made to last the test of time. Allow your guests to hang out near the grill master by adding a fire pit and small seating area to the mix.

Comfy Cozy Patio

Create a cozy haven in your outdoor space with the cozy patio layout above.  This style is based on comfort and tailored towards a smaller outdoor living space. Large plush seating like the Brookstone Chair will help you fall back and relax on those gorgeous summer nights. Pair the chairs with the Brookstone Ottoman to kick up your feet for ultimate leisure. If you’re looking for something to add a peaceful vibe, take a relaxing swing in the San Martino Basket Chair. Consider adding a fire pit that doubles as a coffee table to add flexibility and comfort. Fire pits are a great way to create a tranquil atmosphere.

Entertainment Patio

Create an open space patio equipped with everything you need for summer entertaining. Choose a large sectional like the Santa Barbara 2 Piece Sectional for everyone to lounge together. A fire pit table allows the kids (or adults) to roast marshmallows all summer long on those cool summer nights. Add a few side tables for holding snacks and drinks on either side of your large outdoor sectional. Another clever addition to your entertainment patio is a bar cart like the Casa Viejo for easy maneuvering around a game of charades.

Patio with a View

If you’re lucky enough to have a patio with a view, create your layout with scenic gazing in mind. Layer your design with the sofa in front of the dining area, so everyone has a seat of the beautiful sights. A set like the Brookstone is perfect as it’s available to pair with matching side tables and a coffee table. A round dining table with swivel chairs like the Geneva Swivel Club Chair  is also ideal so no one misses the sunset.

Dining Room Layout Guide

When arranging your dining space, you should not only think about what is visually pleasing but also the most functional use of the space. Whether your home layout is traditional, open, large or small this guide will help you create a dining space from which you and your family can get the utmost enjoyment.

Open Concept

In the case of newer, modern homes, an open concept kitchen is not all that unusual. Open concepts are designed to provide a practical space for entertaining all the while supplying a cohesive flow between the kitchen, dining and living room. In an open concept home, your dining room layout should flow between the kitchen and the living room serving as an integrated space to gather.  In this dining room layout we have combined a round table joined with six dining chairs just at the edge of the kitchen. The simplicity of a round table between the kitchen and living room allow a practical connection of rooms without sacrificing functionality and space. In addition to your dining table, try adding barstools to your kitchen island to continue the flow of social space. This dining room layout is perfect for work, rest, and play.

If you desire a sit down meal with the family without interruptions, a formal dining room layout is the arrangement for you. There is just something about the romance of a room devoted to eating and entertaining that we are quite fond of. While in the process of choosing the right furniture for this dining room layout we suggest choosing a table large enough to fit your family and friends. To boost the formal atmosphere, choose a sophisticated table with intricate detailing such as the Laurel Canyon or the Sedona.

Breakfast Nook

If you don’t have the space for a formal dining room, or want something whimsical to sip your morning coffee, a breakfast nook is the perfect dining room layout. Don’t let this fool you, it’s not hard to achieve! Transform your kitchen from drab to fab by simply adding a couple benches to a corner, paired with a small dining table and two or three chairs. Voila you’ve created a cozy corner that will make mornings much easier.

Eat-In Kitchen

Don’t let dinner time be exhausting, allow it to be quality time spent with the family. This dining room layout is the ideal model if you desire to keep prep, dining and cleanup in one convenient area. If you have a large enough kitchen, place your dining table in the center of the room. This allows the table to double as an island during meal preparations. The eat-in kitchen dining room layout creates a central place for family to gather, thus allowing you to catch up in today’s busy lifestyle. This layout might take some creative shifting of your kitchen space, but you won’t regret the benefits it has to offer. Check out our Quintessential Kitchen Storage blog for ideas and inspiration for rearranging and organizing your kitchen space.

With these great dining room layouts, you can update your dining room with confidence. These layouts are a starting point, but we know that not all homes are made the same. Don’t hesitate to make adjustments and customize your dining space to fit your lifestyle. Happy arranging!

Boho Design Comes Home to Furniture Row with Eden Cohen

Bohemian or “boho” design is becoming increasingly popular and is found more and more in home interiors. Fundamental to this eclectic design style is the combining of many different design elements. When it comes to boho design, the rules are – there are no rules! This anything goes approach lets you freely put your own personal touches into your décor.

Boho design draws upon elements that are found naturally for much of its inspiration. Woods, metals, straw, fire, fur (nowadays most often imitation) and foliage all play a big part in contributing to bohemian interiors.

Colors discovered throughout the natural world also play a role when it comes to boho design. These colors can range from earthy browns, grays and greens, to bright yellows, oranges and reds along with deep blues and purples.

A key element to the featured room design is the color green. It can be found in throw pillows, accessories, and plants. The brilliant green glass chandelier is the focal point adding an unexpected touch of glamor to the rustic furnishings.

The Stratus Sofa is a great fit to incorporate the easygoing boho style into your living room. This plush sofa invites you to sit back and relax. Further adding to the boho appearance of the room is the chocolate Mongolian faux fur throw and pillow. Grounding the room is the Magnolia Home Lotus area rug. Its carefree pattern speaks to the whimsy that is bohemian design.

No matter how you choose to integrate boho in to your home the important thing to remember is to make it an expression of yourself and make it your own!

Meet Ultra Violet: Pantone’s 2018 Color of the Year

The forecast for 2018 is Ultra Violet. Pantone released its color of the year, “a dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade.” The purple color can be connected to the cosmos, spirituality, and creative inspiration. Along with its mystical qualities, Ultra Violet has been embraced by pop culture over the years with icons like Prince and David Bowie. Purple is also the color of royalty and regality. The color seems to embrace the deep purple qualities of mysticism as well as the lighter shades of inspiration.

While you may not want Ultra Violet in your entire home, there is a ton of home decor inspiration that comes with such a radiant shade of purple. Think pops of creative purple in your home, mixed with complementary pinks and oranges. Another great way to draw inspiration is to follow the curated palettes below.

Cotton candy sunsets embrace the Ultra Violet color at twilight. Create a harmonic Ultra Violet palette with frosted almond, canyon rose, ruby wine, and peach beige. A sense of peace can be achieved when you mix the airy purple with softer rose tones.

A buzzing metropolis brings out the dramatic shades of Ultra Violet. Match the bold purple with bougainvillea, hot pink, poinciana, emberglow, and muskmelon for an electric feel.

Color saturation plays an important role with color theory. Deep earth tones like bronze mist and dried moss, are complemented by exciting Ultra Violet, chili pepper, fuschia pink, and peacock pink.

Gorgeous bouquets do it best when it comes to soft pastels and romantic purples. Ultra Violet turns dreamy with dark astral aura and soft gardenia. Pops of cherry blossom, orchid hush, and yellow iris complement this dreamy floral palette.

Nature has a way of showcasing dynamic duos like earthy olive tones and hazy purples. This misty palette features ether, weeping willow, trade winds, misty lilac, dusty lavender, and Ultra Violet.

When it comes to Pantone’s Ultra Violet, the milky way offers seemingly endless possibilities. Mysterious Ultra Violet brings out bodacious, bamboo, citrus, and oriole in this popping palette.

Not in love with Ultra Violet? See past Pantone colors on the Front Door for more interior design inspiration.

Step Inside the 2017 Commerce City St. Jude Dream Home

We all know and love the amazing work that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital does for childhood cancer, especially when they raise money with the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway. This year, they are giving away their biggest house yet! Located in a gated community called The Gallery in Reunion in Commerce City, Colorado, this 3400 square feet, four bedroom, two and a half bath mansion (part of the Overlook collection, named Boulderado) donated by Oakwood Homes is valued at $750,000, and it’s easy to see why once you step inside. The Front Door visited this beauty and spoke to Barb Chandler, the interior designer that decorated the home with furnishings and accents that were provided by Furniture Row. Below, see the photos of each spectacular room in the Commerce City St. Jude Dream Home!

As you approach the home, the front porch brings southern charm mixed with contemporary design. Barb Chandler partnered the Brookstone Patio Set with the Riviera Links Rug in a trendy mustard color, and Morrocan Accent Pillows. The shrubbery, candles, and mini pumpkins create a warm and welcoming environment for this outdoor space.

The entryway of every home is the first thing that guests see when they come to visit, and this foyer doesn’t disappoint. The Mahogany 4 Drawer Accent Table partners with woven baskets in washed gray, while a mirror opens up the space, and interesting home accents such as a metallic pumpkin, rectangular vase, and an Edison-style Bell Jar Lamp give this area visual interest.

The first room on the right is the home office. This country-inspired space showcases cottage chic furniture including the Hancock Park Collection (desk, credenza with hutch, desk chair, and file cabinet with hutch), and a 1-Drawer Accent Table. We love the pop of cheerful color with the customized yellow Eliza Chairs, and the gray Antiquity Rug brings weathered elegance to the work area. Faceted Candleholders, farmhouse trays from Magnolia Home, and the Brody Lamp make this room the ideal spot to get work done.

One of the best parts of the Commerce City St. Jude Dream Home is the open layout. As you walk into the house, the great room feels cohesive, maintaining a consistent theme.

“The look and feel of this home is very modern farmhouse,” says Barb Chandler.

There is a lot of natural sunlight, and we love the liveable mood to the main floor. Furniture Row really made this home feel like home.

SHOP THE LOOK: Interlude Dining Table, Upholstered Parson Chairs, Host Chairs, Marbella Rug, Various Plants

The dining space separates the great room and the kitchen, and the fashionable furnishings are casual yet sophisticated.

“This space is great because it has multiple functions,” Chandler says. “Most families don’t need a formal dining room, but this room can be dressed up or dressed down. I can imagine kids doing homework, parents having guests over for refreshments, or a holiday dinner party happening on this table.”

kitchenThe kitchen is large, bright, and contemporary with gray cabinets, white marble countertops, a large center island, and stainless steel appliances. Two large windows bring a lot of natural light into the space, making it the ideal place for family and friends to gather.

The backyard backs up to a greenbelt, giving the home some privacy that is rarely seen in newly constructed homes. The Valencia Patio Set is perfect for this outdoor space, and we love that the area is covered.

SHOP THE LOOK: Frisco Leather Stonewash Sofas, Aspen Accent Chair, Stockbridge Occasional Tables, Venice Shag Rug in Ivory, Darrin Wood Floor Lamp, Sedona China Cabinets, Julie White Wash Lamps, Seneca Throw Pillows, Velvet Throw Pillows

As you can see, Oakwood Homes utilized the entire space in the Commerce City St. Jude Dream Home. An upstairs loft space complete with wet bar (photographed above), and a reading nook (photographed below) give the whole family room to entertain, relax, and enjoy beautiful Denver.

“This is one of my favorite chairs that we carry,” Chandler tells the Front Door. It tilts, swivels, and the fabric is such a versatile color and trendy pattern.”

The master bedroom epitomizes whimsical romance. Carrying the washed wood tones from downstairs, the Wethersfield Bedroom Set sets a relaxing tone. Hints of aqua blue are seen throughout with the Napa Suzani Rug, wall art, pillows, vases, and other accents. Texture is a huge design element with tufted upholstery such as the Slipper Accent Chair, furry linens, the brushed metal of the Chatham Lamps, and the super-soft St. Germain Chaise Lounge.

The guest bedroom brings a rustic flair to the home with masculine accents inspired by nature and hints of industrial style with the Watson Round Lamp and metal Bryant Park Bed. The color palette is clean with the Bonn Dresser Set in washed white, the Bindi Rug in pewter gray, and blues mixed with neutral linens and upholstered furnishings. Two Grant Cube Ottomans with nailhead trim create an instant window seat, perfect for when friends and family come to stay the night and need a place to set suitcases or to wind down before bed.

This adorable little girl bedroom is one of our favorite rooms in the Commerce City St. Jude Dream Home. Pretty in pink, this space features a Sparkle Shag Rose Quartz Rug, the Madison Bedroom Collection, the Soren Glass Owl Lamp, and the Cecilia Table Lamp. Barb combined gold highlights, playful accents, and a large feminine hanging mural on one wall to make this space truly shine.

The final bedroom is fit for any little boy looking for adventure. The trendy Stoney Creek Bedroom Set is versatile for any style of decor, and the Luke Dark Gray Antique Lamp lights up to shine on all of a child’s favorite accessories. The Antelope Canyon Framed Print beside the beds and the Mountain Ranger Wall Art near the desk are the final touches to this room. The cool part about this space, as well as the little girl’s room, is that they both open to the third outdoor space, an upstairs balcony.

The final space in the home is the upstairs balcony, which is accessed from two of the bedrooms. The Castilla Patio Set provides space to relax and enjoy time with friends and family. The Commerce City St. Jude Dream Home is so impressive, that you really need to see it in person to get the full experience.

On August 3, 2017, interior designers from all over Colorado attended an exclusive event at The Showroom @Furniture Row to preview the brand new fine furniture retail space. Since The Showroom aims to work closely with the leaders in the design community to utilize the numerous fashion-forward brands that showcase their collections in individual galleries, it was important to give these creative individuals a sneak peek of their new one-of-a-kind concept.

Interior Designers at The Showroom

As part of the event, there was live music played by Tin Brother, delectable treats such as appetizers and desserts, gift bags, as well as a drawing to give lucky interior designers gift cards to get a head start on their creativity.

The Front Door got a chance to talk to the experts from each brand and posted some of their replies on The Showroom’s Facebook Page. In the photo below, Ashraf Hassan talks with us about Christopher Guy, one of the most exciting vendors in the new store, as The Showroom is the only place in Colorado to purchase his designs.

To end the evening, The Showroom announced its Industry Partners Program, which offers all design professionals an exclusive discount at The Showroom @Furniture Row as well as the rest of their Furniture Row and Denver Mattress locations. Amy Foster, the lead buyer and official spokesperson for The Showroom @Furniture Row, recently attended two major design shows in Paris and Cologne. “There are very few design shows in the world that celebrate creativity and push the design community to new understanding like the Maison & Objet and the International Interiors Show,” she says.

Staying current with all high fashion home shows, Foster also traveled to New York for the 2017 Architectural Digest Show in mid-March. “The information and inspiration we take away from these shows can have a direct impact on our plans for The Showroom @Furniture Row,” she says. “The New York show created many opportunities to share our vision with industry peers and interior design leaders. Of the many unique features inside The Showroom, the dedicated, individualized galleries for each furniture brand generated the most excitement.”

This month (April 2017), Amy Foster will be attending High Point Market in North Carolina. This is the world’s largest furnishings industry trade show, and will be an excellent venue to introduce the interior design community to The Showroom @Furniture Row. This will give the company an additional opportunity to introduce the home design community to the new concept. “This year will be especially exciting for Christoper Guy as he unveils a new showroom in downtown High Point,” says Foster. “It’s a privilege to attend the grand opening of such an important partner of The Showroom @Furniture Row.”

The Showroom @Furniture Row has also extended its reach with an all-out push in social media. Regular updates leading up the grand opening can be found by visiting Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Snapchat, using the handle @theshowroomfr.

All we know is that we are so excited to finally have a market for designer furniture that is accessible to Denver and the surrounding states. “Before The Showroom @Furniture Row, customers in the market for high-end furnishings would have to travel far and wide to preview and purchase the trendiest pieces that they have seen in the biggest home fashion magazines. Now, there is a one-stop-shop a little closer to home. It’s going to be spectacular!” Foster says.

Staff Furniture and Decor Picks: Meet Shelby, Social Media Coordinator

Meet Shelby, the Social Media Coordinator at Furniture Row and contributor to the Front Door. Today, she shares her role on the team and inspires our readers with her favorite furniture and decor. You won’t be able to get enough of her contemporary rustic style!

Front Door: How do you describe your signature design style?

Shelby Peterson: My signature style is something along the lines of contemporary rustic. I love the rugged, natural beauty of woods, and I enjoy simple neutrals that will stand the test of time.

FD: What color, pattern, or texture do you find yourself turning to again and again? Why are you drawn to them?

SP: Currently, I find myself turning to white pieces. My home is small (750 sq ft. to be exact), so bringing in lighter colors helps open up the rooms. Plus it’s a perfect transitional color from room to room, so if I choose to change up some decor, it’s easier to find pieces to coordinate. I find my eye wandering to metallics as well. I’ve always been intrigued with sparkle, and I’m sold on gold enhancing the warmth of a room and adding fun accents!

FD: What element of a room do you recommend starting with and why?

SP: I think it’s important to start and choose the main pieces of the room and work around that. For example, I started with the sofa in my living room. I chose a neutral gray couch because of the timeless appeal, and it’s something that I can coordinate as my style and trends change.

FD: What’s your favorite space in your own home?

SP: My favorite space in my home is my living room. My fiance and I moved into our own place a little over a year ago, and since then I’ve been working on the space and design to make it feel like home. It looks very similar to my furniture picks with a mix and match of woods, unique gold accents, and soft neutrals of white and gray.

FD: Where do you get your inspiration for interior decorating?

SP: I am one of the only staff members of the Digital Content department that is a Colorado native. Born and raised in Colorado, my design style has always been inspired by the magnificent beauty that this state has to offer, and my heart will always belong here!

FD: What is your position and what does this entail?

SP: My position is the Social Media Coordinator – this entails implementing and executing social posts across a variety of channels including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. So, when you see a post on your feed from Furniture Row or any of its brands – including Furniture Row Racing – it is most likely coming from myself, my co-worker Rose, or my manager, Debra.

FD: What’s your favorite part of your job?

SP: Hands down my favorite part of the job is the ability to be creative. There is a wide variety of creativity and passion in this industry, and since starting with Furniture Row, my passion for interior design has only grown.

Pick Your Personality with Accent Tables

You don’t have to have style-influenced furniture to get the trendsetting room you want! If you’re tired of your living space’s design or have basic furniture that needs a little something extra, you don’t need much to make a fresh, fun new interior design change. Accent tables are a great way to style a sofa side or empty corner, and with the right accessories to match, you can give any room a new punch of personality and save money on replacing large furniture. Furniture Row has a variety of accent tables for any style you choose, so mix and match and explore the wide range of possibilities!

Watch the neutral beige upholstered Laguna Accent Chair fit effortlessly into a brand new design look inspired by the popular decorating trends of today, and find the accent table and style that fits you.

Rustic Farmhouse

If you want to bring sweet countryside charm to your living space, then decorate with rustic farmhouse style in mind. Neutral shades like cream, beige, brown, and wood with distressed wash finishes, organic textures, and simple farmyard-inspired accessories look organic and exude homespun simplicity that will make any room naturally beautiful.

Next to the Laguna, the Meadow End Table features antique two-toned elegance for a cottage-inspired appearance that looks farm fresh. The Cecilia Table Lamp boasts a rustic whitewash finished base to complement the cream floral print shade while the white ceramic Tobian Pitcher holds fresh cut flowers for even more beauty. On the Laguna. the natural colored Burlap Trim Pillow is reminiscent of a barnyard burlap sack and the distressed whitewash Wooden Trug also reminds us of the simple life on the farm. Lastly, the chalkboard typography Beautiful and Whole Heart Framed Prints on the wall add the perfect touch of country charm.

Bold Eclectic

Get a boost of color and personality with bold eclectic style! Your walls don’t have to be vibrant in order to get the liveliness of this fun design trend. Summery bright hues mixed with metallic accents will pack a punch in any room and will add attitude to neutral shades and white walls. Accessories should also be fun and whimsical. The less boring, the better!

With the beige Laguna at its side, the bright coral Paige Accent Table is quite the spunky side table. Intricate latticework and a hexagonal prism shape make this accent table unique enough to draw in many admirers. Matching bright hues on the beautiful watercolor-inspired Element Dance Canvas complete the color scheme, while funky gold accents like the Facet Table Lamp and Gold Ikat Pillow introduce metallic shine. For our whimsical accessory, the white ceramic Mama Llama is the unique artifact your guests will adore. Bold eclectic style sure is exciting!

Industrial Chic

Lastly, bring trendsetting design to your home with industrial chic style! Exposed metal in a room is a unique decorating statement that will add edginess and innovativeness to your living space. To incorporate industrial style, make sure the focus in your room is on the materials and structure instead of rich fabrics and bright colors.

To give the Laguna some industrial chic personality, we paired it with the funky metal Inverness Crank Accent Table, a stand-alone conversation starter piece. Light fixtures inspired by inventions past such as the Bell Jar Table Lamp on the Ponderosa Wall Ledge and the Watson Round Accent Lamp on the accent table feature an exposed Edison-style light bulb for added originality. Accessories such as the light blue Tuning Pillow and Washer Hurricane feature geometric patterns for some eye-catching design. On the wall, the Preserved Architecture Canvas boasts the historical image of an antique iron fire escape for the finishing touch.

No matter what style you choose, there’s an accent table for you. Happy decorating!

Furniture Row Racing Surprises Martin Truex Jr. Fans with a Furniture Row Home Makeover

Two Martin Truex Jr. fans were in for a surprise of their life when Furniture Row Racing decided to give them a Furniture Row home makeover. Eric and Nantena have been rooting for Nascar ‘s #78 driver since he joined the Denver based team in 2015, but they haven’t missed a race in years and years.

To show them both how much they appreciate their fan’s unfaltering support, Furniture Row Racing decided to spruce up their one bedroom apartment with a complete stylish updo. Check out the video below, and shop the look to recreate the peaceful oasis in your own space!

Living Room for Furniture Row Home Makeover

Barb Chandler, interior designer and accent chair buyer for Furniture Row, worked closely with Eric and Nantena to make sure she incorporated all of their wants and needs out of a dream home. “They really liked the idea of a sectional, but with some layouts, this can close off the space. Instead, I brought a large ottoman into the room that can be pushed against the couch to create an instant chaise. Then, when they want a more open living room, the ottoman can easily be pulled away. Never underestimate the versatility of an ottoman!”

Barb used soft neutrals and calming blues to create a stylish and inviting living room. The semi-sheer curtains allow the couple to have the option of more privacy while still letting light in from outside.

STYLE TIP: “When choosing curtains for a small space, pick a length that can be hung higher than the actual window. This draws the eye up and makes the room feel larger. If possible, let the curtains drape all the way to the floor. This lengthens the appearance of the windows, or in this case, sliding glass doors,” explains the room’s designer.

“I always like to play with texture in rooms that I’m designing,” Barb says. “The plush, soft faux fur throw blanket and pillows that I incorporated into the room give the space a warm coziness, while the sleek sheen of the ceramic accessories make the room feel sophisticated and refined. The distressed wood and rivet-edged metal accents on the occasional tables pull the whole thing together, creating a contemporary and cohesive look.”

Martin Truex Jr. also decided to deliver a special message to two of his most loyal fans, congratulating them on their new space and thanking them for their support. “We will remember this for the rest of our lives,” Eric said of the entire experience.

As delighted as they were during the reveal, they have been enjoying the Furniture Row Home Makeover in the weeks since just as much. “It’s heavenly,” Nantena says. “It feels more like a home than it ever has.”

Meet Greenery: Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year

It’s time to spring into 2017! Green is symbolic of new beginnings, and that’s why this bright, refreshing shade is the Pantone pick for the 2017 Color of the Year! Titled Greenery, this revitalizing hue of green is all about a zest for life and a love for the great outdoors. Greenery invites people to relax and breathe in the natural world, and when indoors, immerse themselves in creative goals motivated by personal passions. Take in this lush color and incorporate a splash of Greenery into your home! Furniture Row loves this bright hue, so celebrate the start of the New Year with some tips on how best to use it your home!

Brighten Up Your Kitchen

Add some zest to your kitchen or dining space with Greenery and other refreshing shades from nature like sunshine yellow to liven up mealtime. If your kitchen walls and cabinets are white or another neutral tone, accent decor like candles, vases, or flower pots in bright pops of green and yellow on the dining table or kitchen counter will add a splash of color to anything needing a punch of personality. Even your dining chairs can be upholstered with a fun green print to utilize this bright shade. A little Greenery in the home can go a long way!

Go Casual With Cool Tones

Even though Greenery is on the sunnier side of the green spectrum, this bright color still works great with other cool tones. Various shades of blue and teal will look casual and trendy when paired with accent pieces that feature a dash of Greenery that’s not too stressful on the eyes. A unique abstract canvas, an accent pillow, and some baskets at your sofa side are great examples of accessories that work this zesty hue into the color scheme without overtaking the room.

Let the Outside In

Another way to implement Greenery into your living space without painting your walls is by choosing springtime accents that remind you of the outdoors. Spring is the season of rebirth and renewal, so freshen up your space with a floral print rug, woven tray, or a bright colored table lamp with a fun patterned shade. Greenery and light blue reflect the grass and the sky, so by incorporating these two colors, you can give any room the light, airy aesthetic of springtime breeze.

Be Bold

Last but not least, make sure you add statement pieces in this lively lime hue! Furniture with a Greenery finish like a barstool or a green exotic print area rug are one-of-a-kind and will accentuate your living space to accommodate your own personal design tastes. Whether it’s one piece or several, this springtime color will look beautifully bold in your home.

Get the Look: Gothic Revival

Halloween is almost here, but you don’t need spooky skull decor to stay festive! If you’re a big fan of black, gothic style is a perfect fit for your home, but it’s easy to become a little intimidated by this design trend if your home isn’t styled like a mid-18th century Parisian church. The Front Door is here to help! Add a hint of dark and dramatic romance with these easy steps that will ensure that your living space gets an elegant up-do that’s not gaudy.

What is gothic style?

Forget the association to dark, haunted mansions, vampires, or Wuthering Heights—did you know that gothic style was originally intended to make churches feel a bit brighter? Originated during the middle ages, gothic style began around 1150 AD throughout Europe—specifically in the United Kingdom and France.

Gothic architecture was heavily influenced by vertical design that swept upwards with grandeur in order to solve some of the common architectural problems in medieval times that caused cold, dark, and damp buildings.

Flying buttresses, pointed archways, and vaulted ceilings helped to spread the weight of taller walls and towers and make way for light and airier design than seen previously. Gothic architecture was also decorative and divinely inspired, so gothic interior design also emphasized on the ornate and majestic by incorporating heavy intricate wooden furniture and decorating in rich, dark colors. A lot of inspiration for gothic style came from the Roman Catholic Church that wanted to celebrate their triumph over paganism with beautiful stained glass windows and decor that looked like it was sent straight from the heavens.

Gothic style design tips:

Paint it black (or another dark color).

Nothing says gothic like dark or black finished furniture. The more elaborate, the better! Chairs, headboards, and cabinets made of heavier wood like oak with arches, spiral turned legs, and detailed carvings are a perfect starting point for incorporating gothic style. If black is too bold, gray or dark cherry finished furniture does the trick, or a piece with a nice black-and-white contrast like on the Laslo Hall Console can definitely add dramatic flair. The Otomi Sideboard from Furniture Row is made of solid pine and iron hardware and features a rustic dark coffee finish, making it great for any gothic-inspired room, and the Ebony Jewelry Armoire is elegant with its classic silhouette and chic black finish.

Add heavy fabrics with rich textures and tones.

To achieve the gothic style, use decadent silk, satin, or velvet fabrics with rich and bold colors and patterns for a look that is truly ravishing. The Shimmer Parsons Side Chair features luxurious gray velvet upholstery for some soft sophistication. Romantic jewel tones such as emerald green, deep burgundy, purple, ruby red, or navy blue are dramatic when contrasted with dark or black finished furniture and will give your space a sultry ambiance that looks elegant. Bringing in some color will also allow you to use black sparingly or in moderation, so the room doesn’t feel quite as dark. Thick curtains and drapes on windows and canopy beds in rich textures will also provide a stunning backdrop. Tufted cushions and nailhead trim on otherwise neutral pieces like the Marlena Ottoman and Hampton Loveseat will also add edgy embellishment and glamor to make your room feel even more refined.

Embrace the ornate.

Fancy accent pieces made of wrought iron, metal, and stone are the perfect decorative touch for your gothic revival room! Glittery glimpses of metallic finishes like bronze, gold, and silver will look dramatic on already ornate pieces. The Knottingham Hall Tree features sophisticated wrought iron door decor while the Rosemont Coffee Table boasts a stamped metal tabletop and scrolled iron legs kissed with a touch of bronze for an Old World design. Wrought iron can even look gothic-inspired on lighting like table lamps such as the Chatham Table Lamp or intricately shaped chandeliers.

Enhance with dramatic decor.

Last but not least, make sure you decorate! Gothic style is all about embellishment, so add dramatic flair with elegant objects like mirrors, candelabras, paintings, and dark colored rugs. Our gothic revival room looks romantic with the dark mahogany brushstrokes on the Piano & Music Canvas that goes great with the dramatically elegant red and coffee colored Delphine Rug. For some sparkle, the Roma Candleholders are visually appealing on a table or mantel with their burnt gold finish and smooth silhouette.

It doesn’t have to be intense!

Whether you’re adding one gothic-inspired piece or several, make sure your living space reflects your own tastes and personality. Your unique take on gothic revival will definitely turn heads, and you’ll be the trendsetter you always dreamed of!

How to Incorporate Accent Tables at Home

The table is probably considered the most versatile piece of furniture in the home, but have you ever thought of them as accents? A matching set of furniture can make your home look sharp and organized, but it can also look just as put-together with a table that showcases your own personal style or makes a statement. Whether it’s in a living room or a bedroom, accent tables serve different functions that provide surface space for reading materials, a lamp, or even a cup of coffee. But a variation of color, size, and even texture can drastically change the feeling of a room and give it more personality. Showcase your unique taste by implementing a table that is as stylish as it is convenient. With these hot picks from Furniture Row, the opportunities of neat decoration are endless. Learn about the various ways to incorporate accent tables into your home, so you can become a trendsetting designer!

What is the best material for an end table?

With an endless list of potential furniture materials, there are a lot of options for choosing an accent table that’s right for your home. Here are only three of the common materials used for accent tables and reasons why they might be what you’re looking for to enhance your room’s style!

Wood: If you want top-quality and long-lasting furniture, solid wood accent tables are both strong and durable to withstand years of use. Many variations of color and construction complement any style and will only get better with age. It’s easy to choose wood since there are so many kinds with different finishes, and you can be assured that you made a classic selection that will always look beautifully made. To mix up the traditional wooden end table, choose an accent piece that emphasizes on a unique structure, carved detailing, or painted finish.

  • The Jocelyn Sofa Table (5) is made of mango wood veneers with a rich, black cherry finish and features regal arched legs that support a long planked surface, making it an architectural focal point in any atmosphere.
  • The Denise End Table (4) is similar in terms of modern design and offers a chic hourglass bodice that can hold items above and below on its driftwood inspired oak tabletops.
  • For a more unique wooden table, Furniture Row’s Audrey Pedestal Console (6) is a little more weathered, which makes it perfect in a rustic inspired room. This shabby chic accent table features an intricately carved wooden base with scrolling, floral, and finial details that shape the lightly colored wood with a white and gray painted finish.

Metal: Incorporate a little industrial charm into your room by choosing a table made of metal! Don’t worry about water rings on your tabletop since this is the material that can definitely handle all the elements. Metal accent tables will add a nice touch to a contemporary or eclectic styled interior, or offer a modern feel to a room that’s feeling too traditional or rustic.

  • The Braddock Console (8) from Furniture Row combines weathered fir wood legs with a dramatic hammered white iron top accented with metal screws for a look that’s truly one-of-a-kind.
  • The Murray Coffee Table (9) is made of antique brass finished reclaimed metal that adds elegance and spunk.

Ceramic: If you thought pottery could only be used for decorative vases and mugs, think again! Ceramic accent tables are always a creative piece to utilize in any space looking for personality. With an endless amount of color options, ceramic accent tables are perfect for incorporating a work of art into your home that serves a purpose.

  • The Magnus Ceramic Side Table (1) is too big to be merely a shelf decoration with its large drum-like build. Finished with a rich cobalt blue glaze and embossed vector pattern, the Magnus is the exotic accent table that all your friends will notice.

How do I mix and match them?

So many options for accent tables can be intimidating, but don’t limit yourself to getting only one! Mix and match materials, shapes, and colors for a look that is just the right ounce of originality. Here are some tips for creating a combination that is right for the room in question:

  1. If you’re matching two wooden tables, make sure they match in tone. Using a blend of different woods and finishes will create a natural organic mix, but blending will work best if you mix cool colors and warm colors separately.
  1. When mixing metals, don’t be afraid to choose more than one type of metal finish! Various metals such as gold, brass, and bronze work wonderfully together for a dynamic impact, and unlike wood, warm and cool tones will have a super chic effect. For more on how to mix metals, check out our article about Precious Metals: Mix up the Shine.
  1. Don’t be afraid of mixing metal and wood, or any other type of material! The best combinations are the most unique. Try a blend of woods and metals for an industrial rustic style, or use bold colored dramatic pieces such as the Magnus Ceramic Side Table (1) with the ornate hand-carved wooden Authentic Mantel Console Table (2) for an exotic duo.
  1. A variety of shapes and sizes will provide simple variety to the aesthetic of your living space, so choose two tables that aren’t structured alike! Try pairing a round accent table with a long, rectangular coffee table to create an interesting mix and conveniently place them around open spaces in the room.

With accent tables, you will always feel like you’re adding a stylish piece with a purpose, so start redecorating your home with these little luxury items today!

Big Ideas for Small Spaces

Small spaces are getting trendier and trendier with the push for urban apartment living and tiny houses. It’s now fashionable to create a smaller footprint, but many times, it’s difficult to coordinate how you are going to make it work with less space, while still accommodating all of your needs. The Front Door investigates how you can make the most of your square footage without sacrificing the functionalities of a larger home.

Big Ideas For Small Spaces Blog Post (1)Micro Dining

When considering a dining space for your little home, often times it’s best to choose counter height furniture groups, such as the Audrey 5 Pc. Dining Set (1). Creating horizontal planes among furniture heights helps create dimension and depth, which separates areas within a common space. Barstools replace traditional backed chairs to create an open aesthetic. Dining groups that are labeled “bistro” are also good for small spaces, and establish a quaint and cozy vibe. You also might want to consider investing in a drop-leaf table, which lays flat against the wall, offering half of a dining table for space-saving convenience.

Nesting Tables

Nesting tables are perfect for small spaces, because they are able to be stacked within each other when you need the extra room. They are traditionally smaller than coffee and end tables, giving you the surface area to set a beverage down, but without taking up too much of your living room’s real estate. The Wood Slab Nesting Tables (2) bring new life to a room, with cast metal bases designed to look like branch limbs and tabletops made of naturally felled trees.

Kitchen Stands

Usually, smaller spaces are lacking storage in the kitchen. A great way to bring in extra room for your cooking essentials is a kitchen cart. Look for one on wheels, so you can easily push it under a counter or table, and still have access to your spices, cookware, or other baking necessities. The Graham Kitchen Cart (3) is the stylish combination of functional and fashionable, complete with casters, storage drawer, and side hooks.

Try to open up your space with a statement mirror. Mirrors create a feeling of wide, open roominess. They can make your tiny home have an extra “window,” adding reflective light and airy spaciousness to your spot. We love the River Ridge Mirror (4), because the mixed woods allow you to elegantly bring together your eclectic wood toned furniture without feeling forced. Its modern appeal brings a fresh and retro aesthetic to any itty-bitty dwelling.

Storage Boxes

The key to any small space is organization and neatness. Storage boxes are a great way to keep your belongings categorized and easy-to-find. Consider adding vertical storage to your room by adding a overhead shelf to display your boxes, or stack them in a corner for easy access. The Block Cut Boxes (5) are rustic and charming. They will fashionably store your accessories out-of-sight behind earthy tiles over a resin base, designed to withstand the test of time.

Serving Trays

Give yourself extra tabletop space instantly with serving trays. They are the perfect solution for extra dinner guests, handing out drinks, or working couch side. If you’d like breakfast in bed, a picnic lunch, or a television-side dining experience, voila! The best part is that they are portable, and you can easily store them when you aren’t using them. The Profile Tray (6) is simple, yet functional. Available in your choice of a chestnut or espresso finish, they match any decor and make living small feel like you’re living large.

Downsized Desks

Don’t overwhelm your small space with a large desk. Instead, choose a furnishing that doesn’t take up a lot of room, such as the Hairpin Desk (7). With its modern metal legs, hidden curved drawer, and an open cubby for all the essentials, this piece is ideal for the lower square footage city life. Place this petite beauty beside your bed to let it function as a nightstand/workspace in one, using your mattress as a seat.

Shrink Your Sofa

Don’t try to bring large living room groups into your small space. Instead of trying to fit a couch and a loveseat into your living area, consider bringing in a loveseat and a chair. There often are smaller sofas and pieces that offer the seating area with taking up too much space. Don’t trust websites to order furniture unless they have full dimensions of the piece, and if possible, try to see the furnishing in person before bringing it into your micro-home. The Kelia Accent Chair (8) (which also has a matching small-sized settee), is perfect for small spaces that are looking to make a mid-century statement.

Storage on Wheels

The small homes that work best are the spaces where every object has a place. Stay organized with the industrial Locker Cabinet with Drawers (9). With 9 smaller drawers, you’ll find a home for all of your junk, keeping the clutter from taking over your precious space. Look for storage furniture with wheels, as mobile furniture allows you to recreate space to accommodate your needs time and again.

Open Shelving

Shelves are essential in small spaces. Many times, people don’t utilize the vertical space that a home has, and shelves allow for extra storage. The urban CoQuette Bookcase (10) is compact, and its open ladder design isn’t too heavy for tiny homes. Just because a space is small, doesn’t mean that you can’t display your decorations, photos, and objects that make home feel like home.

Multi-functional Furniture

Make living in a small space work like a well-oiled machine with furniture that serves several purposes. The Gladstone Futon (11) is a great space-saver, as it functions both as a sofa and a bed. We love that this piece doesn’t look like a traditional futon, and it even has two built-in cup holders. Hideaway under-bed storage allows you to store pillows and blankets for the extra sleep space. Other multi-functional pieces to look include a storage ottoman as a coffee table, a padded bench for dining/extra seating, and occasional chests as tables.

Floor Lamps

Small spaces feel smaller when they are dark, so make sure you don’t forget to bring the light in to let your tiny home shine! If you don’t have the surface space for a table lamp, consider a floor lamp, as they don’t take up any table space. Two of our stylish favorites are the Balanced Floor Lamp and the Draper Floor Lamp.

5 Ways to Incorporate Ottomans into Your Home

What do you do with an ottoman? This glorified version of a footrest always seems to accompany your sofa set, but unlike most furniture, this piece can easily become one of the most versatile pieces in the home! Ottomans aren’t just for living rooms. Whether it’s at the foot of a bed, in a child’s playroom, or in your dining room, the ottoman is a definite must-have item for a simple and stylish way to up-do your home. You’ll never want to keep your ottoman hidden again with these five ways to make sure any room in the house is both comfortable and a convenient hangout spot for your friends and family. The selection of ottomans from Furniture Row has everything you need. Check out these pieces and implement them into your home using the fun tips below and become the master designer everyone wants advice from.

Make a statement

You don’t always need an accent chair to bring fun colors or patterns that pop into your home. With a statement ottoman, you can get just the right amount of pizzazz for an easy way to bring your own unique style to any room. For easy color combinations, you can choose a color from your walls or any other room artifact and match the ottoman fabric to create a design that’s one-of-a-kind and truly all your own. Ottomans can stand out or look casual in any setting since they act as natural focal points. From tufted or tailored, to frilly or fluffy, there are endless amounts of options for a showstopper ottoman!

For trendy ottomans, Furniture Row’s Jenna Ottoman (4) adds round tufted charm in sweet beige for a soft and simple room addition, while the muted floral print of the Westchester Accent Ottoman (1) is great for a subtle-yet-sophisticated addition. Pair the ikat-inspired blue Haven Ottoman (3) with your sofa set for an eye-catching piece or let the Robins Nest Bench (2) offer sophisticated patterning in light palettes for a nice pinch of polished perfection.

Keep clutter at bay

Even if your home furniture is filled with drawers and cabinets, you can never have enough storage, so use an ottoman that will hide all that unwanted room clutter! Storage ottomans are best for items you want easy access to, so use them in any room as a simple solution for keeping organized and ready for all occasions. Storage ottomans are perfect for storing remote controls, game controllers, DVDs, or other living room essentials close to your television. They can store shoes in the bedroom and home entryway, keep all of your books and magazines or files out of sight in the office, or store blankets and pillows at the ready for a cozier lounging experience. Parents can also enjoy storage ottomans for simple and safe toy and game storage that kids can play on top of without using the dining table. The amount of uses for storage ottomans is endless, so get creative!

Check out Furniture Row’s Cosmopolitan Storage Ottoman (1) that features steel gray upholstery versatile enough to fit in any room or the Aspen Hills Ottoman (2) gorgeously boasts mahogany-colored leather for that extra amount of style. For more leather-like luxury, the tufted-topped Lakeshore Ottoman (3) perfect for rectangular-shaped storage, while the contemporary and chic light gray Chandelier Ottoman (4) unique round storage.

Use it as a coffee/cocktail table

If you don’t happen to have a coffee table and need a quick place to put your steaming cup of espresso as you read the morning paper, an ottoman is the perfect solution. Flat-topped ottomans are great for coffee, cocktails, or other drinks out on the patio or in the living room, and create a unique gathering spot for you and your guests as you sit and socialize. They’re also a great mini floor table for your kids as they snack during playtime and are baby-friendly since they don’t have sharp corners! Stand out from the crowd with a table that you can accessorize with to match your sofa’s upholstery, or bring a fun, new pattern to the mix.

Furniture Row’s geometric print Vestige Ottoman (1) is a long, rectangular piece perfect for enjoying cool cocktails, and the Livingston Ottoman (4) is the sunny yellow coffee table everyone needs to warm up their morning!

Get extra seating

Don’t let bulky chairs get in the way of a good time! If you have a lot of guests but only a couple couches, ottomans are great substitutions for living room seats, dining chairs, or kids chairs. For an easy bench or window seat, push two ottomans together for a delightful soft spot for two. You can also make the most out of your dressing area with a sophisticated ottoman vanity seat! Easy to move and comfortable to sit on, ottomans are meant to help you make time spent in the home cozy and casual. Check out Furniture Row’s tailored and tan Glasgow Ottoman (3) for a smooth seat you will love!

Just sit back and relax: Last but not least, use ottomans for what they were originally meant for—a place to put up your feet! Furniture Row’s gorgeous gray Siesta Ottoman (2) is plush enough to place your feet as you nap in your favorite chair or prop them up while you finish a good book. Get the relaxation experience you deserve after a long day. The ottoman is the answer for style on otto-matic.

Lone Tree Design Studio: Grace Schlader’s Spring Picks

*Program available in select locations only.

We know that shopping for furniture for your home can be difficult, but Furniture Row makes it easy by offering complimentary design services. The interior designers at each of the store’s locations are helping customers find exciting new ways to customize, personalize, and stylize their homes using texture, contrast, color, and pattern.

Grace Schlader, a Design Studio Designer at the Furniture Row of Lone Tree, Colorado, took time away from her busy schedule to talk to the Front Door about how she helps clients create their dream homes. She also gave us some tips on how to decorate our own spaces and threw in some of her top furniture picks for spring.

Front Door Lone Tree Design Studio Blog Preview

Front Door: How do you describe your signature design style?

Grace Schlader: I describe my design style as thoughtful eclectic – I believe that the difference between a beautiful home and a staged house in a décor magazine is all about the personal touches. I think it’s important to bring together a combination of textures and materials. Furnishings should be a combination of practical, interesting, and a personal attachment to the owner. I love mixing metals, layering patterns, using lots of different textures, and dropping in touches of different styles. Leave room for yourself to still adopt future things in to your home: art from a local exhibit, an accessory from a special trip, or a family heirloom. Going with an eclectic décor style allows you bring in just about anything you may be drawn to, instead of dismissing an amazing piece because it doesn’t meet one specific style.

FD: Where do you draw the most inspiration for spring décor?

GS: Soft, light neutrals as a base make a room airy, inviting, and bright. Pop your favorite colors in accents. Leaving a trail of color will draw ones eye around the room and out the windows to the beauty of spring.

FD: Do you have any tips for decorating/updating your home for the warmer months?

GS: Updating your accessories by adding in bright colors and reflective surfaces can breathe fresh air into a space. Buy some new throw pillows, add some bright colorful trinkets, change out your lighting, or bring in a new rug or artwork.

FD: What color, pattern, or texture do you find yourself turning to again and again? Why are you drawn to them?

GS: I keep finding myself drawn to distressed patterns and finishes. I’m loving rugs with a worn look, colors blurring together in artwork, metals with a patina, and reclaimed mixed woods with burnishing or touches of paint.

FD: What element of a room do you recommend starting with and why?

GS: I recommend starting with the furniture arrangement. Breaking down the practical needs and scale of the room first opens the door for creativity in the selection of finishes.

FD: What’s your favorite space in your own home?

GS: My house is very small, less than 700 sq. ft. Despite the small spaces, the great room (if you can call it that), still feels open. The great room includes our entry (makes up for our lack of closet storage), the dining room, the family room, and our office. I’ve decorated using a great combination of things I love, and yet the room is still incredibly functional.

FD: Do you currently have any projects to share with the Front Door?

GS: Personally, my next big project is getting outside and getting dirty. I’m looking forward to diving into gardening this spring. I’m an Iowa girl at heart.

FD: Do you see any trends forming this spring, leading into summer?

GS: I think we will see more interesting textures in textiles. Fun pillows, throws, rugs, and upholstery options including interesting patterns, weaves, course sisal, soft furs, braids, knots, and fringe.

FD: Anything else we should know about you?

GS: With every client I work with, I’m always surprised by the beautiful and personalized space we put together for them. I’m happy to continue to create individual designs for every unique person I work with.

Essentials for Creating Outdoor Living Spaces

Many people have a small patio set to enjoy the warmer weather, but not many homeowners realize the true value in creating complete outdoor living spaces. Outdoor living spaces can bring friends and family together in a new way, inviting them to an environment to embrace nature in comfort.

Your outdoor living space should be an extension of your indoor décor style, and there are many furnishings to choose from. We’ve chosen two of our favorites, Contemporary Courtyard and Spanish Villa. The Front Door will also show you how to add the finishing touch with outdoor accents.

Contemporary Courtyard

If your design aesthetic is fashion-forward and you enjoy the look of clean lines and classic styling, the Contemporary Courtyard look may be for you. The resin wicker trend is extremely popular right now, and has been spotted on the patios of many celebrity homes, including Kyle Richards of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ mansion.

We understand the appeal of woven resin wicker, as it is not only extremely stylish, but it is practical as well. Resin wicker looks very similar to rattan, but resin wicker is actually made of synthetic polyethylene fiber, which is very durable and resistant to the sun’s UV radiation and water. Because of the material’s properties, this makes resin wicker the perfect solution for outdoor furniture, naturally weatherproofing it from rays and rain.

Combining resin wicker with sophisticated cream cushions, Furniture Row’s Brookstone Patio Collection is the perfect choice for creating your own contemporary courtyard. We love that this set looks so much more like indoor furniture than other patio sets do. By combining the plush sofa, loveseat (3), lounge (5), ottoman (1), and chair (2) with the group’s coffee and end tables, you can have a true al fresco living room!

This style of patio living is also very versatile. You can add pops of color with pillows, throws, dishware, planters, pots, and other accents, or leave it classic and neutral, letting the great outdoors take the spotlight. These pieces transition seamlessly from day to night, providing a casual retreat in the sun with the kids, and offering upscale elegance at a social gathering beneath the stars. From grubbing on barbeque to sipping on wine, the experiences are endless around the elegant dining group (6).

Spanish Villa

If you prefer decorating with European-inspired elements of style, the Spanish Villa could be the look you’ve been waiting for. Global inspiration has always been evident in interior design, and Spanish revival is right on-trend. Featuring awesome archways, terracotta roofs, bubbling fountains, and tower-like chimneys, this aesthetic is cultivated and dignified.

The Castilla Patio Collection by Furniture Row is our pick for the Spanish Villa outdoor living space. The balance of ornate scrolled ironwork and sophisticated tiling will make you never want to return indoors! Although we chose to show only a few special items from the collection, the group is vast, and you can mix and match pieces to create a custom outdoor living space for your home.

Similar to the styling of the Contemporary Courtyard, try adding a couch (5), loveseat, chair (6), coffee table (4), and end tables, to your patio to make it feel like a open-air living room. The fluted metal frames of these intricate pieces have a rustic shine, almost appearing sun-kissed. The tufted back cushions on some of the seating, gives the collection a fresh, updated vibe. The dining group (1) in our Spanish Courtyard is special because the center of the table also functions as a fire pit. Many traditional Spanish patios bring fireplaces to their space, and this gorgeous table brings flame-side flair to dining!

Create Shade

For those extra sunny days, you’ll need a patio umbrella (2). It’s important to balance out your outdoor living space with shade, allowing friends and family to feel comfortable in warmer weather. For even more shade, consider extending your roofline, adding an awning or hardscape structure, installing a fabric canopy, building a veranda or pergola, or working with your trees.

The Finishing Touch

To make your outdoor living space feel right at home, be sure to add outdoor pillows and rugs. Look for materials that are UV stabilized to protect them from fading from the sun’s rays. It’s also smart to look for accents made of weather friendly materials, so they can not only withstand the elements, but also so they can be hosed off when they need to be cleaned. We’ve created four mix-and-match choices of coordinating outdoor accents to take the guesswork out of design!

  1. Red-Carpet Treatment
    1. Karavia Stripe Rug
    2. Riviera Ogee Tomato Rug
    3. Solid Pillow
    4. Nantucket Floral Pillow
    5. Cabana Stripe Pillow

Starting Fresh with Spring Bedding

Winter is all about warmth, but spring is here, so don’t let heavy comforters bog you down! Wool and flannel are fine by the fireplace, but there’s no way you’d want to nestle in those fabrics come April. Something lighter is definitely the perfect fix for your blooming bedroom, but where do you begin? There’s cotton, Egyptian cotton, sateen—oh my! And if you don’t know what any of that means, shopping for new spring bedding can be intimidating.

With Furniture Row’s wonderful selection of luxurious state-of-the-line sheets and comforters, you can’t go wrong with any of our products, but in order to insure you have the right set for you, we’ve broken it down to answer some of the questions you might have. After all, everyone deserves a comfortable bed!

What is thread count?

Thread count is the amount of thread used vertically and horizontally within one square inch of fabric. The lower the thread count, the more likely a set of sheets is to be softer and airy. Typically, bed sheets with a 200 to 400 thread counts are lighter than sheets with a 500 to 1,000 thread counts, which are heavier due to the extra thread.

Comforters also operate on a thread count system. Like bed sheets, a comforter’s thread count says a lot about its quality and texture. Some comforters have high thread counts so their weaves are tighter, making them stronger but also heavier. Look for lower thread counts for your spring bedding.

What are luxury bed sheets?

One common myth about bed sheets is that the word “luxury” means better. This is not the case! Luxury bed sheets normally have 500 to 1,000 thread counts, meaning that they are denser and heavier. Luxury bed sheets have a higher thread count, but depending on the material, yarn size, and weaving technique, they tend to be silkier than regular bed sheets.

Which material is right for me?

Don’t just look at thread count! The material and weave of your bedding also says a lot about its softness and quality, and certain types of fiber or fiber blends woven in a variety of ways can act differently than others. Make sure you never pick out bed sheets based on appearance alone. Color and pattern are important factors, but taking the thread count, weave, and fiber type into consideration is far more important if you are looking for the perfect set for spring.

Some common fibers and weave patterns used in bedding are:

Bamboo: If you’re allergic or sensitive to most types of fabric, bamboo is your best bet. Although bamboo is one of the strongest materials in construction, it is also used to make one of the softest fabrics in the world, and is noticeably softer than cotton. The pulp of bamboo grass is resistant to bacteria, making sheets hypoallergenic and unyielding to dust mites. Bamboo is also a more sustainable, eco-friendly option since the tree grows back very quickly.

For high-quality bamboo sheets, check out the DreamFit Premium Comfort Rich Performance Bamboo Sheets.

Cotton: Probably the most popular material in textiles, cotton has been commonly found in bedding for decades, and for good reason! Due to its breathability and moisture-resistant properties, cotton is an excellent material for keeping you warm in the winter and cool in the summertime. It is smooth and soft due to shorter fibers, so you are sure to always have crisp and clean sheets.

Get the feel of crisp 100% cotton with the Choice Sheet Set and the Trellis Comforter Set or Modern Chevron Comforter Set.

Cotton Blend: Cotton mixed with polyester, another popular fabric, is a great way to insure that your sheets are as durable as they are comfortable. A cotton blend is very easy to care for, but is a little denser than pure cotton—making your sheets feel warmer.

Experience the sensation of cotton mixed with a lovely linen with the Linen Chic Comforter Set. Linen fibers woven with 100% cotton create a truly unique texture that is soft, supple, and lasting.

Egyptian Cotton: Considered the most luxurious sheet fabric, Egyptian cotton is the best in terms of quality! This type of cotton only grows along the Nile River and takes a long season to produce, so the material is made of long fibers and stronger cotton. Egyptian cotton is also supple and silky, and softens with every wash.

For silky Egyptian cotton, check out the DreamFit Preferred Egyptian Cotton 400 TC Sheets for an optimal sleeping experience.

Microfiber: Composed of very finely woven fibers, microfiber is the scientific result of weaving wood pulp, polyester, or nylon polymers. These sheets are very thin, but are strong and exceptionally smooth for a comfortable experience. Microfiber is also popular due its durability and easy cleanup. Microfiber is breathable and is a popular spring bedding choice.

For high-quality and long-lasting microfiber sheets, check out the BedWorks Midtown Microfiber Sheets and the Essentials Sheet Set.

Percale: Although it’s not a material, the word percale on your bedding is still important to note. It is a type of close weave fabric, meaning that the threads are tightly woven individually for a medium weight and firm texture. It is typically found in 200 thread count sheets made of 100% cotton or a cotton blend and washes well.

Pima Cotton: Also known as Supima cotton, this type of cotton originating from Pima, Arizona is an all-American material. You can do anything to pima cotton that you could do to regular cotton, except Supima is much sturdier so it can handle more wear and tear. Some argue that the material is even finer than Egyptian cotton!

Sateen: Sateen sheets are high-quality sheets woven in the same way as traditional satin, but unlike satin, sateen contains more common fibers found in fabrics, such as cotton. Sateen has a silky quality with a four stitches over, one stitch under pattern that makes it extremely soft to the touch.

Get sateen smooth American pima cotton with the Signature Sheet Set or the Bedworks Uptown Sateen Duvet Cover.

Satin: One common misconception about satin is that it is a fiber, but this is not the case! Satin can be woven from wool, cotton, polyester, silk and other materials. Due to a weave pattern in which the threads are caught and looped, satin is a smooth and glossy result that is bound to make you feel like royalty.

Silk: This luxurious fiber traces back more than 3,000 years and the desire for it is still stronger than ever. Silk threads are longer than any other fiber threads due to the unwound silkworm cocoon that can reach an amazing 1,600 feet! This makes silk very delicate, but surprisingly extremely strong in order to produce a light, versatile, and elegant fabric that will give you a soft and sumptuous feel.

Twill: Instead of a basic stitch, twill is a pattern of diagonal patterns in a weave and produces fabric that is more wrinkle-resistant than others. This weaving technique can also produce softer and airy sheets.

No matter what look you’re going for, there is a type of bedding that fits you! Celebrate spring by finding the right sheets and comforter to keep you feeling clean and comfortable right in time for the sunshine.

Global Pursuits: Furniture Trends

Furniture Row buyers literally travel around the world to find the latest and greatest in global furniture trends. They are constantly looking for inspiration to bring customers the most stylish pieces, and making sure that those furnishings and accessories meet the high standards of craftsmanship, quality, and ethical production that the company sets.

Last month, two of our buyers (Amy Foster and Barb Chandler) packed their suitcases, grabbed their passports, and made the 8,400 mile trip to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, where their journey began.

The Trade

“Furniture Row is often asked if we have a factory in Vietnam,” says Amy Foster, accessories and Lost & Found buyer. “Furniture Row does not have a factory in Vietnam. It’s actually much cooler than that! We have a trading company (BCFX) which allows us to source from multiple factories, consolidate, and mix this product together, and then ship it out to our stores!”

Furniture Row was actually the first company to hold a foreign trading license in Vietnam – the first! This trading company, part of Furniture Row, allows Furniture Row USA to buy smaller quantities of goods, hand picked from several factories. “This process allows us to provide our customers with the best product. For example, the Lost & Found collection consists of one-of-a-kind, handmade furnishings,” Barb says. “Since we only buy a small amount of each item, once it’s gone, it’s gone! It’s nice to know that when you go into a Furniture Row store, you can stumble upon a hidden treasure that none of your friends will have.”

Once arriving in Vietnam, our buyers were immediately surrounded by culture and inspiration. With an estimated eight million motorbikes on the road of Ho Chi Minh, often used to transport a variety of goods, the city streets reminded our team of the mixed media and industrial aviator trends that are gaining popularity in the US. “The home décor that you are going to see coming out in the next months is very much focused on curiosity design, for instance furnishings with exposed parts and a focus on how stuff works,” Amy says. “Think moving parts, mixing wood with metal, vintage Edison light bulbs, raw blueprints. It creates a home style that is very sophisticated and urban.”

In between other activities in the country (including posing with Vietnam associates for International Women’s Day), they also saw other style sparks influencing current home décor fashions. From a shop owner in Hanoi (the countryside of Vietnam) and her green produce sporting one of the biggest colors of the moment, to the pom pom accents that you’ll be seeing more of this fall, Furniture Row enjoyed getting to the source of where many of our gorgeous pieces begin.

Get Vietnam inspired style tips here China As the trip continued, the team got to see the beauty and care that’s not typically associated with China. “It’s important to Furniture Row that quality and ethical practices are ingrained in each and every furnishing we sell,” Amy tells the Front Door, “And that value doesn’t change in any country.” After making some last minute sample changes in the furniture workshop, the buyers got to see the beautiful Asian country. At a temple, magnificent tiered tower pagodas hinted at another design style that is becoming more and more in vogue. “The mid-century aesthetic is very popular right now, but there are many people that think it’s not really their style. Modern isn’t the only contemporary right now,” Barb explains. “Elegant traditional furniture is in high demand. Classic silhouettes and cultivated design is what everyone is loving. It’s so fashionable to be timeless.”

If classic nouveau is your contemporary, keep your eye out for the Pagoda Chest, coming mid-April to Furniture Row!

Microwave Peppermint Bark

The holiday season is here, and so are the tasty treats it brings. A classic Christmas flavor combo, chocolate peppermint bark is an easy, no-bake sweet treat that’s great for gifting–and even better for snacking!  With a simple ingredient list, a little prep, and a microwave, you can transform basic chocolate and peppermint into a quintessentially Christmassy peppermint bark everyone will love!

12 ounces of white chocolate
16 ounces of semisweet chocolate
1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract
Topping: 1/4 cup of chopped peppermint candy or candy canes

Measuring spoons and cups
Parchment paper
Baking sheet
2Microwave-friendly sized glass bowl for each flavor of chocolate

How to make your own bark:

  1. Line your baking sheet with parchment
  2. Add white chocolate to a bowl and semisweet chocolate to the other
  3. Add a teaspoon of peppermint extract to each chocolate. for less peppermint, add to only one type of chocolate..
  4. Microwave the semisweet chocolate at 50% power for 90 seconds.
  5. Stir, and heat for another 30 seconds at 50%, stir until smooth. Repeat on 50% power as needed. DO NOT HEAT AT FULL POWER
  6. Pour melted semisweet chocolate onto baking sheet, smooth out.
  7. Repeat steps 2-5 with the white chocolate
  8. With a fork or a toothpick, swirl the two layers. Swirling allows the layers to combine, and makes the bark easier to cut later.
  9. Sprinkle with crushed peppermint topping
  10. Cool or chill for 30 minutes to one hour
  11. Cut, serve and enjoy!

The cream and silver accents pop against blue to capture the colors of a winter wonderland. Metallics like silver are a subtle nod to Christmas ornaments, and bring that special sparkle to give your home a holiday lift.

Whether in your living room or a bedroom, pillows like the Vertical Snowflake Pillow and the Winter Mittens Pillow make any room holiday-ready, and even cozier. A plus to accenting your rooms with blue, cream and white is that you can enjoy your throw pillows long past the Christmas holiday and into the winter months.

Now, if you’re looking to go the more traditional holiday route, nothing says holly & jolly like red ! We love red because it is bold, lively and pairs well with a variety of neutral shades. The Poinsettia Pillow and the Foil Knit Red and Gold Holiday Pillow really pops and complements the beige and cream of the Deer Silhouette Decorative Pillow and the White Poinsettia Holiday Pillow.
